Great place to work, going in the right direction and strong culture

    Global Ecommerce (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsGrowing - There are new challenges as the company gets bigger, but this makes it exciting to come to work. There are no shortage of interesting problems to tackle. If you are curious and a strong problem solver, you can thrive here.

Vision - The company has a long term focus that should help the company to continue to grow over the next decade. There may be some bold strategies, but I'd rather work somewhere that takes a big leap than a place that never changes.

Strong culture - The company focuses on entertainment so there are tons of people with similar sports/music interests to me. Great colleagues and easy to get along with everyone.

ConsResource prioritization can seem off sometimes. The company could do a better job of devoting resources to projects that are measurable and can drive results.

Ticket perks are relatively non-existent. Of course Stubhub doesn't own any tickets, but they could pony up for some for employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to focus on the long-term. Don't sacrifice innovation and technical investment simply to meet a quarterly forecast. This is particularly true with the mobile experience. Do whatever it takes to improve mobile today. Even if this means slowing growth for a year.

Great company but Leadership, especially in Tech, is Weak, so the same problems persist year after year after year.

    (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsIf you're a fan of sports, concerts, and theatre, this is the company for you. Fast moving. Occasional opportunities to get tickets in company raffle. Fresh organic fruit delivered daily. HQ location is in the SoMa district of San Francisco -- in the heart of everything. Part of eBay family, so there's opportunity to move around.

ConsInnovation is just lip service. All talk, little action. Leadership is straight out of a "What Not to Do" book. Constant reorgs left company in 2014 very, very top heavy. Why is there a need to hire more directors and VP's, when there is an extreme shortage of people who actually get the work done?

Mobile strategy is regressive and unfocused.

Work-Life Balance is just lip service. They focus on it. They stress it. But there are managers that still insist you log in and answer emails when you're on vacation or in the evenings. It reinforces the need to always be online and on-call, even though you know it can wait.

Company goal is the focus, but they terminate projects that contribute to that goal, after stating our goals will be tougher to achieve with more competition? No sense there.

Immense dissatisfaction among technology workers. Tech management does not hire "fans" or people who can contribute to the culture of the fan at the company. Tech management is bureaucratic and full of eBay rejects, creating a culture of finger pointing and bad attitudes and "At eBay, we did this, so let's do that." (eBay is not known for competent processes.) Processes are created for the sake of having a process, whether or not it works or is followed is of no consequence. There are so many inefficiencies, that most people do their best to do an end run around the processes just to get simple things done.

For a company that purports to be an Agile shop, Agile doesn't work effectively here, that's why it has been termed by many as "Fr-Agile.” That's the fault of stubborn project managers, who cling to a textbook definition of agile instead of adapting it to something that works in the real life scenarios at the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring more managers.
    Stop hiring from eBay
    Start hiring competent people.
Start getting rid of the dead weight.
    Start treating your employees better!!

AND...Stop telling your managers to post positive reviews on Glassdoor. Seriously? Trying to tip the scale or something? Instead, tell your employees to post honest reviews. If the reviews are positive, then great! If they're not, then take them to heart and fix the problems. When we're honest to you, then maybe you'll see the forest from the trees and see the real problems festering within the company.

So much potential, so many wasted opportunity

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLove of sports, great business model. For folks working outside of Technology, there are challenges but otherwise it's a fun place with positive people who genuinely like each other and the company.

ConsSenior Management is awful, misguided and delusional. They do not trust those who work for them, continually meddle and change lanes, all while "talking the talk" without "walking the walk." It's befuddling to hear them say things in the morning, and do things to contradict that in the afternoon and not even realize it. Senior Technology leaders are the worst of this bunch, but our CEO is a huge part of that problem. He seems to acknowledge it and there is some hope moving forward with him, but Technology is perhaps fatally flawed. If you are looking for work in Technology and are talented, it's hard to know why you'd choose here given this toxic culture.

For what it's worth, the Senior leadership has reacted to poor ratings here on Glassdoor by asking people to come in and write positive reviews to balance that out. This is NOT the way to fix endemic problems at the company and is all too revealing of the problems at the firm.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to trust those who work for you and GET OUT OF THE WAY

    An Evolving Opportunity

    Marketing (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsStubHub is really looking to raise the game in the industry and recently has shifted gears, bringing in lots smart, motivated employees from the outside who bring different perspectives and experiences to the table. Being an eBay company, there are good benefits and the location and atmosphere in the San Francisco office is pretty solid.
There are lots of opportunities to jump in, get your hands dirty and create and define your role.

ConsStill striving to remain a "start up" as the business has grown bigger and bigger. With the change that management is looking to make, you can often find differing directions or viewpoints, but that only allows you the opportunity to further create your own role within the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinually reinforce the company's direction and take bigger risks.

    Could be good but...

Member of Technical Staff (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsOwned by eBay so good benefits. Lots of great co-workers. Easy commute to SOMA. Some interesting technical projects but...

ConsManagement is clueless from the top to the bottom. Seems like everyone there is busy covering their ass and only hire people that will keep the facade up. If you'er in with the "in" crowd, you can screw up numerous times and nothing happens to you. High achievers wind up leaving in disguest because they see the same stupid failures happen over and over again and they know they can be avoided but they wont be.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart hiring people smarter than you

    Love working here

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsIt's a leader in the secondary ticketing space. Has potential to grow. Some teams are really great to work with (outside of tech)

ConsI heard that working in the tech dept is challenging. Competition from places like ticket master will make it difficult for StubHub in the future.

Advice to Senior ManagementHelp the tech department in terms of job satisfaction.
