I have been working at Sucampo

    Pros

Learn more about how a pharma company works.

    Cons

Didn't give interns ID badges, so we couldn't get into elevator until 9am when they worked freely for everyone. A lot of us arrived to work earlier than 9am, so we would be forced to wait outside or in the parking garage when we could be working.

I have been working at Sucampo as a contractor

    Pros

Autonomy and good work-life balance. As a sales rep you have 2 levels of managers you deal with so if one is bad you aren't completely out of luck. Regional sales managers seem very good, at least mine is great.

    Great place to get experience.

    Cons

I've come across/know a few offices that don't have product samples and would like them. However I can't get them added to my target list on request. I've been waiting for management to add them to my list so I call log more calls, and then they complain because I'm not hitting my goal.

The original sales group who licensed the rights for the flagship product still have their sales team on it, and we were given the stuff they didn't want to deal with. You will have to fight for most of your calls on the few good targets you've received because the other sales force will probably still be covering them as well.

You will only have one product to present to physicians in an office, and it isn't a blockbuster or anything most doctors are excited about so you won't have a very warm reception.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not all states are the same. Move faster to enable reps or adjust expectations to fit what they can reasonably achieve. There are some reps who are sitting at call averages way below expectations, and I doubt it is because they aren't capable.

I worked at Sucampo full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I was there 5 years and was part of an exclusive team that they recruited for their first sales team. It was great for the first half and then we went public....got in a lawsuit....lost all vision

    Cons

company has no true leadership or vision...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn how to become leaders-you had an elite sales force-no one had under 7 -8 years experience and most had advanced degrees....we needed a team we could look up to and respect
