    Low wages and unfair

    (Current Employee)

ProsSuccessfactors is a cloud software company which has good reputation to outsiders. Parent company SAP is positive and supportive of Successfactors business.

ConsCompany gives low wages, less than 3% hikes, low bonus, no career growth to most employees regardless of the work. But management pays itself good salaries and enjoy all the benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo your job properly or let someone else do the job.

Great place for a hunter sales professional.

    Regional Sales Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThe suite of products is exceptional, and the investment in development and localization is massive and differentiating. Sales Management is outstanding; among the best that I've come across. Peers and collaborators are empowered and excited and it reflects in customer experience. Unique solutions to protecting SAP HRIS customer spend by migrating to SuccessFactors solutions.

ConsMarketing and Lead Generation is non-existent. Individual products are commodities with niche' competitors selling at a much lower price. Selling to existing customer is challenging due to absolutely awful customer support. Former 'go-it-alone' strategy, followed by a new 'SAP first' attitude, has lead to a weak technology partner community and limited relationship with 3rd parties.

It is no longer SuccessFactors; it is SAP. The culture has changed. The focus is the Global Enterprise and protecting install SAP customers from Workday and Cornerstone. Little to no investment is made into net-new accounts, and land-and-expand model is discouraged.

Advice to Senior ManagementWorkday, Cornerstone On Demand, and other niche' competitors have earned their place with enterprise customers through execution in niche' and smaller markets. Customer satisfaction, references, and a stellar reputation for customer success are key to their marketing model. They apply the fundamentals of Geoffrey Moore's, 'Crossing the Chasm' to market development/penetration, and are out marketing you as a result. Invest in the acquiring more new customers and ensuring referencability.

Prospects and customers no longer know your brand. Invest heavily in messaging: advertizing, direct marketing, community, and social. It requires more than account coverage by sales teams. They are not doing it for you.

When it comes to Support, get better or get beat. Develop your triage models, tiers, and SI's.

    No work life balance

    Individual Contributor (Former Employee)
    South San Francisco, CA

ProsFree food, nice offices, all employees get iPads, cell phones, lots of flexibility for remote workers

ConsThey give you cell phone and Ipad and allow working remote because they want to be able to contact you 24x7; no work/life balance. They are part of SAP

Advice to Senior ManagementYou blew it by being acquired by SAP

    Need Better Customer Service

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    South San Francisco, CA

ProsEvery company could use this kind of technology.
Great work space and very intelligent coworkers.

ConsIn my opinion, customer service was sacrificed for growth and now the customer experience is often poor. Small issues continue to get overlooked and never get fixed. Competition has caught up and true innovation has slowed.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to the little things and focus more on customer (and employee) retention.

High hopes then business as usual

    Program Manager (Former Employee)
    South San Francisco, CA

ProsLots of promise when I joined - we were driving Cloud for SAP. Very exciting to be a part of that. Working with smart people who know how to get things done. Amazing new office with all the perks. Interesting, varied work. Felt that my contributions were valued.

ConsEverything changed when Lars left the company. A long period of assurances from senior management both at SuccessFactors and SAP, but little action as key people ran for the door. When the dust settled, things were very different as SAP exerted more and more influence. The "transparent" culture turned out to be not so transparent after all. And, very disappointed to see that despite having products that purport to help people work differently, the day to day business behaviors were pretty much like every other company I've worked for.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake faster decisions - you let too many people get away while you were figuring out what to do

    Not so great for engineers

    Software Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsIt is a SAP company so there are many benefits to employees.
Office building, Free Food, Gym, Shuttle Service.

ConsThey use outdated technology and have lot of bugs which is frustrating for customers. The company is trying to adopt new technologies but they are too slow. If you are an aspiring engineer, this place might not be for you because career growth and development for engineers is not a priority. The rewards and growth promises are reserved for everyone except engineers so many talented engineers leave the company. This makes the product quality poor and below standards.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on innovation and reward your engineers like many silicon valley companies. This is missing and critical for companies like SuccessFactors to improve product quality by attracting and preserving talent.
