I have been working at Suffolk County, New York

    Pros

Quality of life (work/life) balance, amazing coworkers, satisfaction of knowing you are doing good for your community, pension, and great health benefits (medical, vision, dental), and partially subsidized other benefits such as tax preparation and purchase of glasses or contacts etc.

    Cons

Salary is not livable for Long Island if you have law school debt. There is a residency requirement also, so no trying to live in spots closer to the city. There are loan forgiveness programs but you will live on a shoe string budget for all those years. It's sad so many have second jobs to supplement income. I think many people would stay forever if they could afford to do so...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Updated technology and communication between bureaus.

I worked at Suffolk County, New York full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, holidays and work schedule in a relaxed working environment. Opportunity for long term employment with a diversity of job areas.

    Cons

Unfortunately a very political environment which makes it difficult to put into place or execute any long term planning. Fits the government stereotype in many ways

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize that Suffolk County needs to improve it's economic environment and keep young people if it expects to have a future
