I worked at Sumitomo Trust and Banking full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you're a fast learner, you can get really good experience. Some very smart people here.

    Cons

No training or mentoring, so you're on your own here. Performance and compensation seem to be very loosely linked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just say you value your people...

I worked at Sumitomo Trust and Banking

    Pros

coworkers were great with sharing information and bonding
if needed help, could approach anyone up to the VP for assistance

    Cons

senior management wasn't good at communication
choices were made by people in Tokyo who didn't know the product or the industry

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

communication needs to be improved. everyone already knows how the system works and how hard it is to get things done, so there isn't a motive to do better

I have been working at Sumitomo Trust and Banking

    Pros

Good Benefits, compensation at or above the market and convenient location. The company is profitable which can be reflected in year end bonuses.

    Cons

Bureaucratic mindset trumps all including common sense. God help you if you make an error. Not a good place to work if you seek advancement based on performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should realize that their processes, procedures and systems need to be updated to reflect the 21st century and not the 1980's.

I worked at Sumitomo Trust and Banking

    Pros

Benefits were pretty good and they were flexible on taking time off. They also are conveniently located in the city.

    Cons

It was very hard to move up. They are not willing to give promotions unless you are there for too many years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise them to encourage promotions based on hard work and not based on number of years in the firm.
