    Pros

Conservative Canadian company with good benefits

    Cons

Limited opportunities for advancement. Many managers are detail oriented, and not big picture focused. They know their department and products, but don't know how to step back and be strategic in moving the company forward.

    Advice to Management

Act on diversity. Time is spent talking about it, but the company does little to actively promote it. Just take a look at how homogenous the leadership is…..

    Pros

Good company with very good benefits and decent pay. Most employees are hard working and good to work with. Management for the most part is OK.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities. Seems to be having limited success with their growth strategies, so the future of the company is murky.

    Pros

New CEO who knows the employee benefits business, which the US firm has staked its future on. Open to data analytics and innovation from designated individuals.

    Cons

Firm has staked its future on voluntary benefits, but has few innovative products to break into a market dominated by industry leaders. Low salaries, inconsistent meritocracy, few innovative employee benefits products, few industry leading divisions except stop-loss and international. Corporate culture is so top down and job security is so tenuous due to the new CEO, cost cutting goals, adn constant reorganization that there is no room for the needed culture of firm-wide innovation that would help insure success.

    Advice to Management

Reward according to innovation and performance. Reduce hierarchical/top down approach to strategies. Encourage experimentation at all levels of the firm. Encourage the making of mistakes, instead of allowing only top management and favored managers to experiment with new ideas. This will reduce the tendency for higher executives -- or those favored by senior leadership -- to practice blaming those with lower titles when mistakes -- the perquisite for innovation-- occur.

    Pros

The benefits at this company were excellent, from vacation time to health care. Employees are great people who work hard and try to better the company.

    Cons

Management at multiple positions do not have experience in the Employee Benefits Industry. The Internal desk has 4 managers, none of which know the products or industry, as they all started in 2013. They do not know what is best for the company because they have not been in the industry long enough, makes for some frustrating decisions. Head of Internal "Sales" team is a lifelong underwriter with 0 sales experience.

    Advice to Management

Learn the product and industry trends instead of micro-managing dial numbers. Promote and hire people from within the industry who know the trends and approach to selling.
