    Pros

At Sun Microsystems, you will find some of the best and brightest people in the industry, devoted to Sun's mission, and working incredibly hard to help our customers solve their toughest challenges.

    Cons

The biggest downside of working at Sun Microsystems is the stock price :-)

    Advice to Management

Focus on small building blocks and execute on them well and consistently. Don't boil the ocean.

    Pros

Growth opportunities and flexible work space - from either home or the office.

    Cons

Senior management needs to hire more people from out side of the company instead of promoting each other to positions that they have no background experience doing.

    Advice to Management

Think more about the bottom line and being profitable.

    Pros

Easy Job, not too much pressure. If you are not too career-focused you can stay there forever without working too hard. Good benefits, good colleagues, good fun, great technology products!

    Cons

Very unclear career path, inconsistent quality of Senior Managers. Too focused on revenue reporting, not enough on profit margins.

    Advice to Management

Cut the middle management bureaucracy - continue on delivering outstanding value to customers

    Pros

Cant say there any "good" reasons at the present other than the fact that this company generally cares about its employees and treats them well. It was more so under Scott McNealy

    Cons

Lack of opportunity, aging products and lay-offs around every corner!

    Advice to Management

Stop retreading the middle managers that have not performed and better/greater accountability for these managers.

    Pros

Industry leading technology/Innovation and entrepreneurial spirit-company -well positioned with open source products-JAVA, MYSQL, Solaris 10, ZFS-just need to monetize this IP. Benefits are good and many smart people. X64 sales are driving business in new areas including linux, windows and VMware-but margins are poor. The challenge is to monetize open source IP and turn it into real $$$. Cloud computing will take years to recognize any real monetary benefit but need it to compete.

    Cons

very bureacratic, political-senior management messaging is missing and the board of directors has shown little leadership. Now that Southeastern Asset Mgt owns 25%, you can expect changes-hopefully for the better. Stock price has gone down the tubes since the reverse stock split and morale is low due to uncertainty and announced layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Never forget that people are the lifeblood of the company-need to reward them for performance. Otherwise, you will quickly find yourself with only mediocre people that will only be able to accomplish mediocre things. Cost cutting can help in the short term, but you are seriously harming the prospects for Sun's future.

    Cons

    - Day to day activities get boring at times. - Work can become repetitive and sometimes too mundane for my taste

    Advice to Management

    - Create a better work variety for employees and increase bonuses - Introduce some new techniques in implementing data into the system

    Pros

Very Innovative company across many different markets, fast paced, flexible working environment

    Cons

Many hung up on hardware plays of the past. Awesome software but often gets down played that it works great on non-Sun hardware. Real lack of corporate marketing.

    Advice to Management

Need to bring in fresh blood from the outside in all areas of the company. Need to increase corporate marketing beyond senior exec blogs.
