I worked at Sun Microsystems full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Engineering driven organization that took good care of it's people. Lots of perks, great people, fun to work at.

    Cons

Engineering driven organization that took bad care of it's products. Never really profitable outside it's core business of hardware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Software is just as important as hardware.

I worked at Sun Microsystems as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The name of Sun Microsystem is recognizable by most tech savy people. I enjoy working in a fast paced work force that is creative and organized.

    Cons

It is harder for large corporations to create change that can be dynamic. Most corporations have a set path because it has been found to work for them.

I worked at Sun Microsystems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The team helped each other if you needed it.

    Cons

Long hours because of the 'puzzles' I wanted to solve. Lost job due to outsourcing right after Sept. 11 (so date of employ. Wrong below) job was sent outside of USA but that's business. Lost my ability to keep learning cool work stuff every day!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep promotion of balance re. Work and life. Recruit those who lost jobs due to outsourcing.
