Completely dysfunctional transformational mess from AIG being pushed down to the subsidiaries to meet corporate goals.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsFair compensation and benefits package - unusually generous for senior level executives.

ConsRidiculous hours - unrelenting and ridiculous deadlines pushed down from AIG with unrealistic expectations on delivery times. AIG Corporate has no patience for or understanding of the impact of these demands on people's day to day lives and ability to do their job (nor do they care).

Advice to Senior ManagementGet an understanding of how dysfunctional the Corporate Culture is and the ludicrous amount of change expected to occur simultaneously (without causing disruption to the businesses). Figure out why the Life and Retirement business have required multiple reorganizations in the last 2 years and fix it. The officers look at the mess and it is classic ready fire aim - oopps try again.

Great place to learn the business

    Assistant Vice President (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe company is growing and expanding its product line. It is also a player in the mutual fund industry so there is a good chance to learn the business from one of the best. Always new projects to work on.

ConsNot a great place for work/life balance. They have trimmed a lot of staff so everyone is pulling a lot of work.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsJob allows you to set your own schedule and be independent. In the right environment the company and its products can be fairly strong.

ConsCompensation was constantly cut. Over 60% in the time I was with the company. 5+ years. Also the company didn't evolve quickly enough. They kept older products with higher margins in place which ended up costing the company MANY large accounts and untold amounts of assets lost.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot much to say now. The entire company and business model has been changed since I left. Wish it would have been sooner. Many good accounts and financial advisors would still be with the company.

Good job for the right person

    Financial Advisor (Current Employee)
    Cleveland, OH

ProsThey give you a book of business with plenty of opportunity to earn a good living. They also allow a great deal of independence (most advisers work from home).

ConsThey give you a "training allowance" to help with income until you begin to write business. After that, its feast or famine.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot sure I have any advice for management. They do a good job in managing expectations, providing support, and communicating important information.

I enjoyed my job until AIG went south. Since then, sales goals have doubled. If you're not on track, you're let go.

    Financial Advisor (Current Employee)
    Cleveland, OH

ProsIncome potential. Access to clients/ prospects. Reputation

ConsConnected/ owned by AIG. Senior management using questionable tactics to help Financial Advisors meet sales goals. Goals have doubled. Disrespecting Financial Advisors that have been here for 20 years and still productive. Yet, they want a "new" brand of Financial Advisors

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a better way to motivate employees rather than give out pink slips and taking away assets from productive, intelligent, and motivated Financial Advisors

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
