If you consider yourself a professional in your field, stay away.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCoworkers were great. Clients were terrific to work with and provided interesting business challenges.

ConsManagement is the worst I've ever seen, from mid level to the business unit VPs. They have no experience in solving problems, very poor negotiation skills and deplorable people skills. Managers are petty and childish. There is too much micromanagement which squashes creativity and innovation. Promotions are based on 'old boy' cliques and friendships. Actual skill, experience and results are not part of the equation. Turnover of skilled employees is high, while employees with lesser skill and experience remain and are expected to solve complex problems with no direction from management or documented processes to reference.

Advice to Senior ManagementReal change and progress won't occur until significant management changes are made. Middle managers need to be evaluated on their ability to retain employees as well as providing direction, processes and procedures for their teams. If a manager cannot meet these kind of minimal standards,, they should not be in the position. Stop promoting your friends.

    Awful Professional Experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAbility to network and find opportunities in other companies.

ConsManagement, management, management. Inexperienced management with no concern for the growth of their employees. Stale management that are all very comfortable in their present positions, with no desire to learn, grow, or advance professionally. This unfortunately does not allow the people that they manage to grow and results in forcing the smarter, harder working, more motivated talent right out of the company. This is rampant in the Sungard VPM segment of the business. In addition, all focus is on billable hours. The core of the company is like a bad car dealership, caring only about sales and nothing else.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange. A comprehensive change in management is desparately needed if there is any hope of being successful and competitive in the future.

Think twice before joining this company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe benefit package is competitive and they have a very good 401K. Co workers are friendly and there is always plenty of work to be done.

    ConsLack of flexibility
    No communication
    Constant reorganization
The environment feels more like that of a kindergarten than an office, employees treated like children, scolded for various actions, like that of a child
Workload distribution is uneven, many have nothing to do while a few select employees have more to do than they can complete in an eight hour day
Overtime is encouraged and admired, hours worked are broadcasted by many as an accomplishment, it almost feels like a competition on who can work the most

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat those that work hard with respect and remove those that do not
    Communicate better with employees
Realize that some who log in long hours are milking the system and stretching out their responsibilities. This is partially in response to low to no raise etc.
    Provide a career path
Stop trying to pacify employees with hollow remarks on how management is taking steps to improve morale, we are smarter than that and it sounds ridiculous. We know change will never happen, its the Sungard way.
Odd behaviors are overlooked and almost encouraged.

    Worst Company to join at

    Senior Product Developer (Current Employee)
    Pune (India)

ProsUSed to have work life balance totaly depends on your product. We were then forced to work 10 to 12 hours 7 days a week yes i am right even saturday and sunday
Nothing else if you are good in showing off then you might get good bonus

ConsBad work environment , no worklife balance in my product at least
Old timers dont work and are appraised as well so if you are one of them then you will never leave Sungard and tswy there are lot of good things written about the company here.
If you are in Pune and being a non Marathi then god save you.Even the internal working language is marathi and you are suppose to be total alien if you are not one.
Firing is happening at rapid place both higher ed and public sector are closed and more than 150 people are fired . its facing difficult time and even some of the existing and suppose to be loyal clients are moving away.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey wont change , Advice to all the new people joining in the company better dont.

Lousy Management, Capped/Low Commissions, So-So Products

    Account Executive (Former Employee)
    Wayne, PA

ProsSome large clients. Not many positives at SunGard.

ConsTerrible sales compensation plan, which includes multiple low caps on commissions, low commissions, and some very low commissions.

Management is all politics, no vision or leadership.

SunGard is really a cobbled together group of companies, that is not well integrated.

A strong "yes man" culture stiffles creativity and productivity.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeeds to be replaced, company restructured.

    Could stand improvement

    Product Architect (Current Employee)
    Pune (India)

ProsImmediate team is smart and a pleasure to work with

ConsLack of focus. Runs as a bureaucracy e.g. IT Dept has shut down R & D initiatives because the platforms needed were not already on approved list , and so were many of the needed components in the tool chain.

    Implementation

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsBenefits, talented people, devoted customers

ConsManagement, lack of long-term strategy, too much emphasis on short-term goals to meet monthly numbers, lack of HR support for employees, poor equipment and software tools for employees, no training or opportunity for advancement at all and very low pay

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on your employees. Give them the tools they need to be successful. Reduce the number of managers and only keep the ones who can really do the job.

ProsGood experience for college graduates or those wanting to learn a new job in an IT environment.
    Good introduction to other industries

    ConsNo advancement opportunities
    Not family friendly
Management has no experience; nothing is consistent
