Pros
The working environment is good and the benefit is sort of acceptable. It is OK to start and be there for couple of years.
Cons
Growth opportunity is limited. Management doe not really have clear vision for the employee. Sometime feels like management does not want to see you grow. You won't get the position until you leave the job. The management feeling appears like daily job is going OK, so why need to promote someone.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe employees should be rewarded when they are loyal to the company and do good work. If someone is not qualified for the next level, there should be some program to prepare her/him for that, therwise why the employee would stick with the company. The career growth should be clearly defined for the employee, otherwise talented people will always make this comany as a station to move somewhere else.
Pros
Great for management at a certain level. Anything is forgiven. Job secure even when they don't know what they are doing.
Cons
New startup from 2006 out of managements area of knowledge. Bungled badly so dissolved a whole department of people. 120 jobs sent to India because of management at Sungard.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't start a new business area unless you get the right management to run it.
Pros
Oppurtunity to work with very brilliant technology experts.
Oppurtunity to work with cutting edge technology.
Family like relationship with co-workers.
Cons
Jobs are increasingly outsourced.
Highly stressfull workload.
Salaries are not as competitive as other companies.
Pros
Money is good.
People are great to work with. Lots of team work
Cons
Upper mangement has no idea what they employees deal with on a day to day basis
Internal systems are outdated & extremely slow.
Processing quotes and getting information to customers is not an easy task
Managers in all areas of SunGard treat subordinates like they are children
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employee not their managers, the manager is only interested in looking good so they will keep their own job.
Pros
- highly professional, helpful co-workers
- wonderful clients
- great working envirornment (when on site)
Cons
- incompetent, uncaring management
- lip service to improving employee satisfaction; little evidence of this being a priority
Advice to Senior Management
Ponder continued loss of consulting business to competitors; laying off senior people for those cheaper/less experienced NOT good long-term strategy.
Pros
-Close relationships with colleagues almost family like
-Fosters Team atmosphere
-Mature operations processes
-Company works to preparing newcomers to the industry
Cons
There seems to be an inside group that gets special treatment and appears to be immune to the potential downside of the business.
Advice to Senior Management
Eliminate the perceived 'in-crowd' so that all employees can feel that they have equal footing with all other employees. This will go a long way to fostering more loyalty and in the long term better employees.
Pros
* a lot of smart people
* well known and respected brand
* access to training
* generally good infrastructure
Cons
* quite bureaucratic in nature
* tendency to inflexibility
* management did seem to be somewhat insouciant / going through the motions
* decisions with significant impact on workers suddenly appeared without introduction
Advice to Senior Management
It is important to reach down the hierarchy and actually talk to the workers.
On more than one occasion he promise was made in a meeting that visiting management would talk to everyone only for nothing to transpire. This basic failure to be credible is very damaging.
Pros
They have interesting, and sometimes very good, products, some good people. The environment is very international. Not so much stress.
Cons
Senior management didnt seem really interested in investing in products and people. Focus appeared very short term. A fair amount of incompetent middle management.
Advice to Senior Management
They could probably find some low hanging fruit by trying to improve the quality of middle management, and try to make the various segments work better together.
Pros
3 weeks vacation isn't horrible, not great either. Lots of fun people to work with. Large number of capable employees.
Cons
Pay increases can be hard to come by. Management can be hard to work with at times. Lots of travel can be required.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be nice to have more training oportunities. Although most can be accomplished by buying a book, sometimes it's nice to have a sit down training for a complicated subject.
Pros
good people and team i work for.
Management structure for my division is straight forward and is good to work for.
Cons
Promotion opportunities are lacking even if an employee has consistently exceeded all the objectives laid out. Basis is due to economy.
Departements are somewhat silo'd
Advice to Senior Management
better training program for new hires especially in engineering support areas where they are not face to face with customers. cross training in face to face areas would give these people a better understanding how to support our customers.
