    Pros

Large access to the biggest financial institution in the world. Pays well overall. Lot to learn when facing such institution.good career springboard.

    Cons

Was run by the one if the most charismatic manager Cris Conde.since they dropped him SG is run by a bunch of H2O American managers. (H2O characteristics:no taste, no odor, no flavor) deeply anchor in some cronyism check well most of the top guys and gals came from the same alumni, Aon Hewitt and/or ADP. They depleted years after years the front lines but multiply internal useless "communicant" people that bombard with internal propaganda just to make you feel that they will care of you. Top mgt strong adept of bull bingo...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top mtg, get your money when you LBO next year and leave that shop! You breaker the fabric of that company so get you royal bonuses and run.

    Pros

    -> Work life balance
-> Decent compensation (if you understand how to push it out of management)
    -> Pockets of good talent

    Cons

-> Morons run the show and the smart ones have to pander to the fools who are either smooth talkers or pretty looking ladies
-> Very sales heavy , redundant layers of marketing people with fancy titles and salaries sucking resources from product development and client services
-> Management approach is, if we cant fix the problem, lets dance around it and make some money while the party lasts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit

    Pros

Friendly office environment, good training opportunities. Well organised IT infrastructure and knowledgeable people to learn from/work with. Flat structure, feel like a genuinely important member of the team.

    Cons

Pay isn't great, definitely not as competitive as other companies in the same industry. Definite favouritism shown to those from an Oxbridge background. Can be slow to progress up the ladder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay better!

I worked at SunGard Financial Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great atmosphere, exciting place to start your career, excellent coding practices, high-tech environment, high-quality developer training, opportunities to work on exciting projects.

    Cons

    * Linear promotion paths leading to bottlenecks and limited career growth opportunities.
    * Stingy compensation that is not competitive and does not keep up with market standards.
    * Will resort to dishonest behaviour to keep salaries down (new-hires with 0 years of experience were offered higher salaries than experienced employees).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a massive disconnect between senior management and the company's main productive body. I do not know if senior management can feel this, but it is definitely the view down bellow. Middle management then runs rampart, trying to squeeze as much juice from the employees without offering them enough in return. Junior managers are actually enthusiastic and try to do the right thing.

Keeping salaries competitive by market standards is actually a miniscule price to pay for productive and highly motivated employees. Everything stems from bad management, which is disheartening.

I have been working at SunGard Financial Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You are given a lot of freedom to do the job the way you see fit and a lot of flexibility eg working at home. The pay is very good in sales.

    Cons

There is very little career progression or management. Most jobs are pre-allocated before they are even advertised so if you didn't know about it before, you are never really in the running. There is a general lack of respect for employees and a tendency to treat them like commodities rather than people. It is very typical to work evenings and weekends but this is balanced by the flexibility to work at home and manage your day the way you see fit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time with your good people...not checking on what they are doing because they know how to do their jobs. Spend the time developing them for the next job and make them feel like there might be a real career for them in SunGard.

    Pros

Bright clever people who work with good products. Knowledgeable about the market and customers. Good office facilities but not young tech company style.

    Cons

No consistent strategy and senior management change almost annually. Continuing to downsize teams and there appears to be little stability in many areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to reach out to the lower levels in the organization and listen.
