I worked at SunGard Higher Education full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits package is on par with competitors. The hierarchy scale is built on a concept of collaboration; whether it is executed or not depends on your management.

    Cons

Just poor overall communication throughout the business lines. Little to no collab on ideas, fore-thinking, plans, movement, etc. Absolutely no culture to speak of. Just a very bland company overall and the product lines reflect that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to customers to find the right balance of technology and value proposition. Software offerings need to solve problems without expensive add ons or configuration costs after implementation

Former Employee - Advisory Software Engineer in Malvern, PA

I worked at SunGard Higher Education

    Pros

Work Life balance, decent pay, nice office environment

    Cons

Since being taken private, the bean counters have ruled. Off-shoring development to India, so local people have become a devalued 'commodity'. Management is not sure how to proceed technology-wise, so many changes of direction recently, this aimlessness kills morale almost as much as the off-shoring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Is the bottom line really all that matters? I guess it is, but there are long term repercussions, perhaps if you are looking to sell soon that is OK, but otherwise you will reap what you sow.
