I worked at SunGard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Management kept everyone in the organization very much informed, benefits were very good, there existed the ability to move to any of the other areas of the organization which there were many

    Cons

Many, many, many levels of management which sometimes got involved in things that they didnt really know much about. Went to a shared services model specifically for accounting which was a very difficult transition

    Advice to Management

    Listen

I have been working at SunGard part-time

    Pros

If you don't like being stressed out or pushed to the limit this is the place for you. They encourage telecommuting - a definite plus.

    Cons

It's an ok company to work for but senior management doesn't convey an exciting vision or work to engage employees.

    Advice to Management

Demonstrate to your employees that you understand your customers and how to market to them, instead of focusing on quarterly financials.

    Pros

Great co-workers at office allowing ideas to be spun around.

    Cons

Too many managers working remotely from home resulting in poor communication and poor morale. Too many people have a high level of server and app access causing apps to break daily.

    Advice to Management

Do not allow managers to work from home all the time.

I have been working at SunGard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you're on the right team at SunGard, you'll have an amazing time. My group is awesome, the people are smart and motivated and interesting. Other teams at SunGard are embarrassingly stuck in the past, and new hires leave after a year or two for better operations. If your group seems like forward thinking people you'll probably have a good time. Experiences will vary vastly between teams, mine was 5 stars but there are some stinkers out there.

    Cons

It's a big corporation that doesn't know exactly what it is. While progress has been made since the era of SunGard as a holding company, it's still not a cohesive whole despite management cramming it down our throats. Underpays developers a bit. Sales really runs the place. Fancies itself as a tech company, but make no mistake: this is financial services firm (and a second-tier one). Best proof: no jeans in the main office, even for developers.

    Advice to Management

If you want to be a tech company, let people act like they're at a tech company and work on your perks. You sell IT products, your sales people need to be smarter or you need more sales engineers. You're going to get eaten alive by the Fintech revolution if all you can sell to is the old boys club. Also, time to get off the 1990s technology--dump Sybase ASAP (and SQL Server too). You're going to have to do it eventually and nows a good time to leapfrog (although the window is starting to slam shut). Also might want to rethink some aspects of organization, you might have an easier time keeping good talent if you don't keep people working on just one cloistered product.

    Pros

The people here really make it worth getting up and going to work every morning. Very friendly, supportive environment. Everyone works well as a team. Room for growth within the company. The people are also very passionate about the product and their clients.

    Cons

    I have no significant complaints

    Pros

Exposure to smart people and innovative problem solving using new security technologies. Takes information security and application security seriously Management recognizes talented, hard workers Exposure to global, diverse co-workers and customers

    Cons

Being high decentralized which created a series of stove piped departments - makes rolling out universal services that benefit the enterprise challenging

I have been working at SunGard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - A sales focused company.

    Cons

    - Revolving door management policies - Lip services paid to employee welfare and customer focus - Lately has had a glass ceiling towards women and minorities

    Advice to Management

    - Need a consistent goal for the entire organisation with the follow through. - Ad hoc and yearly changes to the management and priorities causes a lot of confusion with the employees and the clients. - Need better ethical standards while dealing with customers.
