Former Employee – worked at SunGard full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Loved my colleagues, many exceptional engineers.
Cons – Lower management is petty and plays favorites while upper managements only concern is to make sure that the Blackstone group gets it's cut.
Soul crushing on-call
Good old boy mentality with director level management and above.
Aging architecture doesn't really align with it's wanting to be state of the art.
Advice to Senior Management – Spend the money to bring in the right tools and technology or sell the business to someone who will.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at SunGard full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Plenty of different technology to learn. Schedule gives plenty of days off.
Cons – No leadership qualities in management. No accountability. Projects are rarely fully thought through. A lot of micromanagement, does not promote a culture of creative thinking unless in a clique.
Very few written processes or impossible to find if they have been written. Feedback on how the process is working is not asked from the people that are required to follow it.
Lower Management promotes Favoritism.
Advice to Senior Management – Promote cross-pollination of information between different departments. Change the mindset of pushing back tickets to the original assigning group to moving the ticket forward. It's all of our jobs to help the customer.

Pros – Was a good copany to work for, my product is closing on end of life, and there are no propects else where in the company for me, strange for such a large company

Former Employee – worked at SunGard full-time
Pros – Ability to network and find opportunities in other companies.
Cons – Management, management, management. Inexperienced management with no concern for the growth of their employees. Stale management that are all very comfortable in their present positions, with no desire to learn, grow, or advance professionally. This unfortunately does not allow the people that they manage to grow and results in forcing the smarter, harder working, more motivated talent right out of the company. This is rampant in the Sungard VPM segment of the business. In addition, all focus is on billable hours. The core of the company is like a bad car dealership, caring only about sales and nothing else.
Advice to Senior Management – Change. A comprehensive change in management is desparately needed if there is any hope of being successful and competitive in the future.

Cons – but is slow on making decision at production level, no sense of criticality.
Advice to Senior Management – You need to be more energic with your engineers, way to soft.

Current Employee – been working at SunGard full-time for more than a year
Pros – The benefit package is competitive and they have a very good 401K. Co workers are friendly and there is always plenty of work to be done.
Cons – Lack of flexibility
No communication
Constant reorganization
The environment feels more like that of a kindergarten than an office, employees treated like children, scolded for various actions, like that of a child
Workload distribution is uneven, many have nothing to do while a few select employees have more to do than they can complete in an eight hour day
Overtime is encouraged and admired, hours worked are broadcasted by many as an accomplishment, it almost feels like a competition on who can work the most
Advice to Senior Management – Treat those that work hard with respect and remove those that do not
Communicate better with employees
Realize that some who log in long hours are milking the system and stretching out their responsibilities. This is partially in response to low to no raise etc.
Provide a career path
Stop trying to pacify employees with hollow remarks on how management is taking steps to improve morale, we are smarter than that and it sounds ridiculous. We know change will never happen, its the Sungard way.
Odd behaviors are overlooked and almost encouraged.
