Pros
Big Regional Bank
Depending on the group you are in you can work from home 2 days a week
Cons
Sr Management keeps repeating the same problems - there is no resolution
More interested in presentations and perception instead of quality and getting to the root cause
Strategies to resolve prolbems not well defined or not defined at all
Advice to Senior Management
Develop a solid strategy
Rely upon a good team to implement the strategy
Get the right people in the right roles
Pros
The company is very family oriented and generous in time off, flexible on work from home. The company is stable, conservative and does not demand extraordinary performance from it's employees. The employee benefits are great.
Cons
The company is stable and conservative, and does not accept change easily. Improvements and changes are very slow coming, on all levels of the orgainization. Do your job and you'll be happy here. Try to make improvements, and you will find yourself pushing against a solid wall of reluctance.
Advice to Senior Management
You treat your people very well, but the company is not always challenging to work for. The number of minorities and women in middle and senior management is noticeably unbalanced.
Pros
Lots of opportunity for personal growth. Great education program. Good benefits.
Cons
Need to improve annual salary increases for current employees. Parking allotment would be nice.
Advice to Senior Management
current employees should not make less than new hires.
Pros
Very good work/life balance. Very competitive salary.
Cons
Very slow career progression, and little opportunities for advancement. Tend to get stuck within one service line and stay there.
Advice to Senior Management
N/A.
Pros
a paycheck
benefits (health, vision, dental)
Cons
incompetent management
no technology...cant even say its outdated...bc there is none
no rapport among colleagues...too many chiefs and not enough Indians...
Senior Management lack of communication to middle management and associates
no monetary incentive
no balance between work and life concept
Advice to Senior Management
learn from larger banks how to run a corporation
Pros
Telecommute and you get to work with a diverse group of people.
Cons
not very big on promoting within, seems to bring in new people instead of moving internal employees up.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize talent among you.
Pros
No hassle incorporating telecommuting days. Good infrastructure for remote meetings, conference calls, etc. Decent environment physically, though not luxurious - the bank watches its pennies. Good team-oriented culture - I wouldn't say politics are completely absent, but I have never been denied information or access to needed systems or information upon demonstrating a legitimate business need. The bank puts an effort into retaining employees long term, and it shows in the loyalty and effort people put out. Managers are culturally inclined to listen to what staff has to say. Overall a rather pleasant place to work.
Cons
Well, they don't pay like the major financial centers but hey, it's Atlanta (or Orlando or RIchmond, Va.). Technology changes take a long time to filter up and out but again, there are 30,000+ employees to support so one understands a measure twice, cut once philosophy. IT is not especially seen as a competitive advantage as, say, a brokerage or hedge fund might view it. These are piffles as far as I am concerned. The one real con is that their culture differs from the big city banks in terms of how they value IT functions - e.g., a senior DBA is a VP in most places. Not here.
Advice to Senior Management
You're doing a lot of things right as far as management-employee communication and the overall team culture. One presumes as the profit picture improves, so will the bonus pools.
Pros
Location to home, Hours of Ops, Good Place to work if your a reservist or guard member
Cons
Hours of ops, Politics, Executives that make up stupid rules that dont anything other than become annoying and boring to report or do.
Advice to Senior Management
Retail Banking is the meat and potatoes of SunTrust treat it as such. Value your employees and help them get promoted and paid more for doing well. If you dont you will lose good people to other banks and your clients will follow.
Pros
Competitive pay, challenging work, and good people!
Cons
Can be slow to respond to technology advancements.
Advice to Senior Management
Gain a better understanding of your IT challenges.
Pros
-Good work environment
-Work/Life balance
-The People
-The Brand
Cons
-Compensation not close to market value
-Employee morale
-Disconnection between management and employees
Advice to Senior Management
There is a disconnect between middle management and the lower level employees.
