    My Worst Work Experience

    Personal Banker (Former Employee)

ProsPay was commensurate with skills, education, and experience and good benefits.

ConsI was over 110% on my sales goal but still punished for not having a daily core quota and was going to have to stay after work even though was above goal and worked hard, high micromanagement, inefficiently operated, and poor morale among workers. Only was hiring from mostly Wells Fargo for new positions so no place to go career-wise...did not hire own people to be able to move up.

Advice to Senior ManagementHigh sales pressure will most likely get you into trouble in the long run and is not for the client's best interest. Goals are needed but to constantly berate your employees will not pay off, and high turnover is inefficient and costly.

If you are looking for disorganization, poor planning and a lot of office politics, seek employment with SunTrust.

    Business Analyst (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsIf you get a manager who is ready to embrace SunTrust's new telecommuting options, the ATL traffic won't be another layer of stress to add to an already stressful working environment.

ConsThis is an atmosphere of poor planning, a LOT of contract employees who come and go as if this company was defined with a revolving door policy. Although critical knowledge is constantly walking out the door, projects are expected to continue to move forward and on an extremely tight time schedule without regard for ramp-up time of new employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees as people; if you're happy with a contracted employee, hire him/her and keep a good worker on the team. When you are made aware of issues on a project, address them and work with the team to determine how to best resolve the issue. Pushing them under the rug only delays the inevitable.

    it started off being good

    Branch Manager (Former Employee)
    Orlando, FL

Prosmany locations close to home ,lots of good people at the branch level, the pay is fair, good benefits 401k , health plans ect

Consupper management out of touch, sell, sell, sell, goals set high as to make you fail in some areas, short staffed, no personal relationships with clients, company making cutbacks,

Advice to Senior Managementstop thinking about the bottom line all the time, putting value points on staff, constant threats of you being replaced, gallop poll scores from people that are irate customers and wont give you a 10 score (get real) too many threats from upper management, put them in your shoes and lets see how they do in a recessed economy in some areas, this bank did not start out this way.........corporate greed took over and now money and numbers is bottom line, the old vision about treating people fair is long gone with the founder of this company

Conservative, ernest, hard-working (but not smart-working) organization. Good 'ole boy network alive and well.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsNice people, warm atmosphere in many of the business units. Lots of autonomy, which can be good or bad. Leaders are really more working supervisors, not leaders. Because of the continuous reductions in force, there are lots of opportunities internally, but beware!

ConsEffort, not results, rewarded. Easy to manipulate senior managers because of this. Lack of vision at senior levels. Too much churn and turnover. Serious talent drain and "dumbing-down" of many job families. Poor work-life balance and non-existent training opportunities. Culture of fear and distrust.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to learn to accurately assess talent (including the senior-most levels).

Very disappointed in the experience - dysfunctional and lack of organization.

    Senior Vice President (Former Employee)

ProsA lot of change going on so opportunities exist; company is trying to do a lot of the right things and may evolve in a positive way.

ConsDoesn't treat or clients employees well; doesn't walk the talk; senior leaders are weak

Advice to Senior ManagementWalk the talk

    Teller (Current Employee)
    Fort Lauderdale, FL

ProsThey offered my more than what I was asking for.

ConsSell, sell , sells and sell they want you to be a shark and sell what people dont need. the company is changing. The raises are a joke. They dont want or help you to advance.

Advice to Senior Managementstick up for your employees and do what you say.

The worst mistake of my 20 + career as a manager - Stay away from this company

    Analyst (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsGood Benefits, Excellent 401 k match, many perks.

ConsWorking at this place was a living hell. Senior managers with no management experience are permitted to scream, ridicule and belittle their employees on a constant basis. Senior Managers don't respect their employees. Many employees in this company are being robbed of their dignity and bullied by their managers on a daily basis. Other managers and HR know who the abusers are but do nothing to correct the problem.
Employees end up in sick leave with stress related problems like anxiety, panic attacks,
stomach problems, high blood pressure, and bleeding ulcers.
To confirm what I am saying all you need to do is to check the employee turnover rate at this company and the number of openings - not unusual for a manager to have up to 9 openings.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement 101 - Stress, home problems, '"bad days", is never an excuse for a manager to abuse, ridicule , or belittle their employees. Exit Interviews performed by HR is what other companies do to find out the real reason why employees leave the company. Your employee turnover is high and you know it - but you are electing to look the other way. Wake up or sell the company to somebody with some business sense.

Expect high level sales but not willing to pay accordingly.

    Branch Manager (Current Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

    ProsIt's a job, nothing more.

ConsDoes not pay well. Hard to move up from retail to corporate. Expect 45-55 hour work weeks from managers. Too many meetings. Low % merit increases even if you have done really really well. Changed incentive system to pay very little if any.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake better care of your top performers. Give better merit increases. Bring back monthly incentive pay. Limit the number of fire drills and conference calls. Help you top performers with job development .
