Pros
Benefits are excellent
CoWorkers are fun and make the job bearable
Meeting new people
Cons
Low Pay for the responsibilites
Pros
1. Opportunity to learn via work assignments and company inititaives
2. Inititaives by Senior management to "mature" the company and make it more competitive
3. Opportunity for "moving" within the company to different areas
4. Opportunity for advancement is available
5. Senior management seem to be making an effort to listen to employees across the board. there is a mechanism to provide feedback.
Cons
1. Still not a very "mature" company but inititaives are in the process to "mature" the company.
2. A regional Southern company but on it's way to becoming a more diversified company.
3. Not enouhg training and development for mid-level employees. Focus seems to be on senior management.
4. No profit sharing bonus for low or mid level employees. Focus is on senior employees.
Advice to Senior Management
1. More training and development opportunity for mid-level employees. These are the people that "do the work" and are value added.
2. Add a profit sharing model for emplyees across the board. Currently the bonus incentives are only for employees at a certain level.
Pros
Vacation days and bank holidays
Good benefits
401K and Pension
Cons
No consistencies across departments. e.g. Mortgage business is run on its own island.
Advice to Senior Management
There must be standards, processes and consistencies. The bank should not be so different from Mortgage, and not so different from Wealth Management.
Pros
Benefits, Salary (depending on mgr), workplace
Cons
Senior mgmt doesn't listen to their support staff.
Advice to Senior Management
The people that interface with customers should be given some time to voice their concerns.
Pros
Great training, very flexible with schedule. They were accommodating when I wanted to move within branches and positions. Quarterly bonuses are decent.
Cons
Management is only concerned about the exaggerated numbers you need to produce. You unfortunately are forced to probe clients about their finances even if they feel uncomfortable, it's a requirement. Cheesy welcoming of clients when they enter the branch which management is extremely focused on. Senior management will make you stay past bank hours for outbound calls to sell additional products and services. Compensation was not competitive especially in my area, you were forced to meet monthly bonus quotas and exceed them just to make ends meet.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire the right people. Stop focusing on training employees how to interact with clients the proper way but to build relationships. Everytime I step into a branch, I felt like I was being helped by a robot with a memorized script.
Pros
The pay at SunTrust is much greater than the other banking jobs that I've held.
Cons
In my particular branch, it seems like the management staff is constantly trying to put you down and not effectively coaching staff to ensure that everyone is fully knowledgeable on SunTrust as a whole and on products and services. Although I've worked at a couple of other banks before, each bank has a different way of doing things and you would think that there would be adequate training to know how SunTrust operates. I am often left to try to find answers to questions on the internal website, which I might add is not organized at all, since the staff does not care to help at all.
The system that we use for our transactions, BancStar, is extremely old and out of date. WaMu before it was converted over to Chase had a better operating system and even that was pretty out of date.
Advice to Senior Management
The staff is what will make your branch profitable and generate positive results. If you ignore them, offer no help, and constantly put them down, then the employees will be in no mood to want to do well and your branch will suffer. Also, please treat your part-time and peak-time tellers better. Although they are not there all day and only a few days a week, they are a crucial part of the operation.
Pros
Great benefits package.
Room to move up
Great HR people and recruiters
Cons
Disjointed company
Insufficient pay for expectations
Very political workplace
High Turnover
Micromanagement
Unattainable Goals
-SunTrust management is brainwashed into a goal driven, number game. They want you to prioritize the clients that will get you the best referrals.
-I felt overscrutinized at every turn. (A sigh was called negative)
-When questions are asked about why we are doing something, it is considered negative. (Questions do not represent negativity)
-Working as a team is great, but we are truly paid to be nice and considerate to customers, and it is hard to work as a team when everyone that you work with goes behind your back with every problem that they may have with you instead of coming to you with it.
- All mistakes, no matter how small work their way up to higher management. Nothing can just be handled without your branch manager, operations manager, and region manager, maybe even the security officer knowing.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop micromanaging, your people can do the work if you let them. Don't talk to your employees like your reading from a corporate script, it is cold and there are ways of being HR appropriate that do not require you reading from a book. Don't infer things before you really know what your employee thought.
Pros
Benefits and hours are ok.
Training is great but far. Reimbursed for the mileage and time spent.
Great employee perks. Discounts at theme parks, shopping sites etc.
Cons
Long 10 hour days including Sundays.
Computer systems are outdated.
Management is a joke and hire underqualified applicants.
Uneducated higher up management also.
Incosistent across the whole footprint of SunTrust.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees.
Have an open door.
Appreciate hard work!
Stop hiring incompetent managers.
Have an HR department that actually does something.
Pros
Great benefits package, they contribute money towards a pension for you. Health, Dental, Life Insurance benefits are top notch.
Cons
You are a disposable number, they won't think twice about sending your job offshore. The will hire employees as contractors forever and do not give any job security.
Advice to Senior Management
Care about people and people will care about the company.
Pros
SunTrust pays their employees well compared to other banks in the area. I received a hefty relocation package and sign on bonus.
Cons
Micromanagement was apparent in the few different departments that I worked in. The glass ceiling is very low. Being a female, I often got overlooked. I didn't see too many women in senior management, and the ones who were in senior management often felt a threat of other women.
Advice to Senior Management
Use your talent wisely. Give the opportunity to succeed to everyone who works hard. Discontinue micromanagement, one person shouldn't have to report to 3 or 4 people, especially when the other hasn't a clue on the actual job duties.
