Pros
Benefits are pretty good. 401k with 5% match is good too. Paid holidays off. Not much is good here. Bank schedule is pretty good.
Cons
Everything. They take advantage of you and everything is the tellers' fault. The pay is terrible. The job is horrible. So stressful and not worth it.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees more. We do so much work for a measly paycheck. It's ridiculous.
Pros
Flexible work arrangements, allow working remotely.
Generous vacation days
Status quo is the norm, overly laid back.
Good place to be if you have no aspirations and just waiting out retirement and don't want to be challenged.
Cons
Cronyism, non-merit based promotion is the norm. Poor leadership/management. No career path. Need to get comp coming in. Typically hire external talent over internal talent. Does not groom or prepare/grow internal talent for promotions (cronys).
Advice to Senior Management
Put action behind your words/rhetoric. It's past time to clean house of all the ineffective and zero value add senior management (which is most of you).
Pros
-There are a lot of employee discounts offered.
-It is a major corporation so job security is a plus.
-Salary is reasonable.
Cons
-Pay raises are almost nonexistent. As a teller, a 2% pay raise is the most they offered which totals to about $0.20 per year. With that type of raise, you'll never get anywhere.
-Every branch has their own rules it seems like, so customer's are just as confused as the employees which causes some serious problems.
-Transferring to a new location is a joke. I was treated like some random person off the street and not like a current employee. Keep in mind I got perfect reviews, and this didn't help one bit.
Advice to Senior Management
-Recognize your good employees and reward them.
-If you never actually worked in a branch yourself, then don't tell people how to interact with customers since you obviously don't know how to do it yourself.
-Learn the ins and outs of the jobs of the tellers, FSRs, and teller coordinators so you can better understand what we do everyday.
-Update your technology! Everything is so old and outdated!
Pros
Sense of job security for sure.
Cons
Too many old people at the top
Advice to Senior Management
Modernize your systems and stop waiting for the other banks to take the initiative first.
Pros
Ive worked for other banks in the past so i feel justified in saying that SunTrust is a very good environment as compared to others. Much less sales pressure for TELLERS at SunTrust.
Cons
Typical banking job issues. i.e. sales pushing can get annoying at times & the overall environment can become stuffy if you're teammates take things too seriously all the time. Bank employees are just too "on-edge" sometimes...
Advice to Senior Management
the ROM's (operations person in charge of multiple branches) have NO CLUE about how things really work.... branch employees just appease their dumb requests because we have to, but most of the time, they make NO sense. please address that.
Pros
Big bank, the people are great to work with.
Cons
Very little power at the local level.
Pros
compensation is good compared to others in the Market.
Cons
Long hours of work due to several project initiatives.
Pros
Good benefits; Flexible work schedule
Cons
Work can be very stressful when it comes to shifting priorities and hard deadlines.
Advice to Senior Management
-Get rid of the dead weight (too many people who been there 15+ years; just hanging around for pension).
-Hire more bright, young/mid level people who want to make a difference.
-Too many silos in the company from business units, location (Atlanta, Richmond, Orlando), etc. -Need to somehow bring together the company; especially the business and IT/delivery groups.
Pros
Large company with a lot of resources, including a very good research department and supportive fixed income desk. Most of the people are very professional and ethical, not a lot of office politics.
Cons
Very little genuine support from the retail bank, who receive very little financial incentive to support the investment group and no disincentive for not supporting it. Very limited opportunity to market outside of the bank, and the information systems are atrocious.
Advice to Senior Management
Either the retail bank has to offer more genuine support, or the financial advisors need to be able to market more aggressively outside of the bank - something has to give! Also, sooner or later somebody in senior management is going to have to have the courage to admit that the current CRM system isn't really a CRM system at all and replace it.
Pros
Teammates are very nice and genuinely care about you as an individual.
Cons
Pay is very low, as a result there is a very high turnover there. This does not help morale at all.
Advice to Senior Management
SunTrust should compensate its' employees more. The bank is one if not the lowest paying banks in the country....and providing excellent customer service is stressful.
