Working at Suntrust

FInancial Services Representative III (Current Employee)
Nashville, TN

I have been working at SunTrust full-time for more than a year

Pros-Great team atmosphere
-Ok starting salary
-Excellent benefits package and 401k
-Best part is your work does not leave the work place. I have never had a job that once I walk out of the work place, I do not have finish, emails to check, or deadlines to worry about.

Cons-New sales point system is odd and hard to figure out
-You have to refer certain services to teammates (investments), and relay on them to close or offer the best solution
-Old sales and service structure was way better and provided teammates more bonus incentives

Advice to Senior ManagementChange back your licensed banker program to the old model, and inturn allow bankers do what is best for the client and put more wages back in their pocket.

Getting more responsibility with less pay

Personal Banker (Current Employee)
Nashville, TN

I have been working at SunTrust full-time for more than a year

ProsTechnology and software have come a long way in the last 12 months, making the job easier.

ConsPay plan is more confusing than ever. Seems like there is always something that can happen and cause you to not make commission. Too many things factor into pay pan that are outside of my control.
Being told to turn away business and clients that are not profitable to the bank. That is not client first.
Too may software outages. Makes it impossible to help clients.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to the old pay plan. This one is too confusing and makes commission hard to attain.

ProsCompany Values and team togetherness

ConsIndustry is always changing which can make job difficult. Lack of promoting from with in.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote from within. In this industry you are always worth more to bank across the street than you are the one you work for.

Good work environment, pay could be better.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Nashville, TN

I have been working at SunTrust

ProsThe work environment is good, with friendly management, who make it appear that it is easy to move up the ladder within the organization. Benefits packages are pretty decent but then again most quality big companies do have this. Suntrust is a good bank overall so it is not hard to sell to clients.

ConsThe main con is that I feel that if the quality of people that they hired were better they would have less turnover and would be able to pay more quality, efficient people higher salary. There are those that do well and move up but it seems for the entry level jobs they just hire anyone who can decently talk and work a computer and they either stay and work through the motions or quit after a few months. My opinion is why invest in these people in the first place instead of raising salaries as well as raising the bar and focusing on quality over quantity.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on hiring and keeping quality people satisfied.

Good job with benefits to pay the bills

Teller (Former Employee)
Nashville, TN

I worked at SunTrust

ProsBeing a Teller teaches you to manage conflicts well and deal with stressful situations. It also offers a chance to serve clients and help them with their finances. Full benefits even for part-time tellers. Teller is a great part-time job during college or high school but would make for a somewhat boring career in my opinion.

ConsManagement is a bit weak. Performance goals are set but there's a lot of lip service and the truth is often obscured. A good number of rude customers are often difficult to deal with. Poor employees can stick around for way too long.

Advice to Senior Managementno feedback.
