Pros
The benefits package is great! The people are great!
Cons
There is some Saturday worked involved not a huge fan but comes with the territory!
Pros
Descent benefits.Good working hours compare to other industries.
Cons
You do good this month, get ready they are going to ask for more the next! Don't expect to much recognition even though you have done great. Lack of support.
They don't care if you been there 20 years, one of the best employees, very productive, you make a mistake that cost them money, you are out! In my case was only $3,200.00 that I even offered to payback. They use it as an excuse to get rid of me. Thing twice before working for Sun Trust...
Advice to Senior Management
Try to understand that we are all humans, under a lot of presure every day and we can make mistakes....
Pros
Some of the customers are great to work with. Depending on your manager is how much you will like this place. I didn't like the first manager I had, the knew one is more knowledgable and willing to help you succeed. Wish they were all like that.
Cons
policies changes all the time. Training is horrible. The training is very basic and when you go in to the real job everything you learned is wrong and a large amount of things are not covered. Important things, like things that you could get in trouble for. They expect you to know things you were never taught. That's why you're lucky if you get a manager who points you in the right direction.
Advice to Senior Management
More in-depth training on policies, procedures. Don't just throw us a book, tell us to read it and then give us absolutely no time to read it. Listen to us. Customers tell us everything they hate, but no one listens to the "pions".
Pros
Suntrust offers very good benefit packages to the employees. Also, SunTrust offers an excellent employees benefit package for clients who work with affiliated companies. Very good compared to other banks.
Cons
Well, working in an in-store location has its downsides at times. Some days you may have to work long shifts to accomodate the hours we are open. An in-store location hours are M-F 10am to 7pm and Saturdays 10am to 4pm. Meaning some days one may have to work a 9:30am-7:30pm shift.
Advice to Senior Management
Well, there is one particular manger that is very new at the position or seems to be new. At times when he/she is providing coaching sessions he talks as if you were to be a child. Even though you have been in the banking industry for as long as he has.
Pros
Free account services and checks, health insurance, nice tellers to work with.
Cons
They tried to turn you into a sales person- too much pushing home loans, credit cards, overdraft protection, etc. They made us stay late one night a week or more if we didn't meet our goals and we had to cold call people at dinner time trying to see if they needed a credit card or would like to refinance their home through SunTrust. I thought this was such a turnoff and just the total wrong way to go about doing business. The whole night I pretty much just got to listen to people yelling at me to take them off our call list or ask why I was calling them when they were trying to eat dinner. Also the management was very inexperienced in their field b/c they moved out and never had management training.
Advice to Senior Management
Think of better ways to "sell" your products and meet goals rather than making tellers who have no idea about what their selling in the first place to call random customers at 6pm. Also this was a great way we ended losing peoples business.
Pros
The benefits package available when I was with the company in 2006 were very good. SunTrust has a strong 401k match and a pension plan. The people in Raleigh were friendly and willing to share knowledge as needed. The company is also willing to pay for graduate level programs for its employees.
Cons
General bank buerocracy - too many meetings and systems that must be used. It would be interesting if the company offered stock options at lower levels. I never felt very busy - spent way too much time surfing the web.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the bank well capitalized and don't chase after earnings at the expense of long term wealth for the shareholders.
