Pros
Suncast continues to do well in a down economy and industry. Medical benefits are excellent. Co-workers are generally good to work with.
Cons
Too much favoritism. If you are a "pet" of the Mfg VP, you are golden, can do no wrong. Otherwise, watch your back every day. Management supports and encourages backstabbing, undermining others, selfish behavior. Every day you have to wonder about people's ulterior motives. There is a real lack of communication from the top down. "Suncast knows best" just do what we say, don't ask any serious questions. Upper management tolerates mediocrity if you have been there long enough, which discourages newcomers or people who really are motivated to try, til they see there is no point, since it doesn't matter what you do, but how well you are liked by the right people. Any improvements are superficial. If you try to suggest real improvements or changes, you are ignored until you go away. Best to ignore people who try to rock the boat with ideas. Lack of focus on any substantial goals. Every week it's a different plan based on whatever is the current flavor of the day.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just talk about accountability, follow thru on it. Get rid of the deadbeats, regardless of seniority or job title. Share infformation. Eliminate the favoritism. Encourage real teamwork and a real positive environment.
Pros
Cute Marketing Girl, comfortable atmoshpere, fellow peer employees were very nice to work with. Nice location. Good vending machines. Nice business card. I had a good assigned parking spot. Primo location. Company picnic is nice.
Cons
Upper MFG Mgmt was dreary to work for. Condecending to employees. Lack any management and interpersonal skills, to put in mildly. Fast turnover in certain departments should be a cause for concern. No clear business plan is evident. Non-diclosure of state of company. Just keep your head down and work type atmosphere.
Advice to Senior Management
Be respectful, not condesending and maybe you will retain people. Why certain people kept in management positions, we will never know.
Pros
The paychecks always cash. They just hate the fact that you don't WANT to do it for free.
Cons
The use of illegal aliens is overwhelming and keeps the pay scale far below standard. They use a loophole in Illinois law and indirectly hire thru temp. agencies but everyone knows the reality here and just look the other way.
Advice to Senior Management
Get out on the floor and actually see what is going on. You may very well find out who is actually doing the work instead of trusting the mid-level managers who spend all of their time taking credit and pushing honest and loyale employees away from the co. while selling out subordinates to keep their jobs safe.
Pros
The HR manager is fantastic. Many of the salaried folks are good to work with. (The following is true but is also filler to get to the 100 word requirement.) The company picnic is fantastic. They hold it at the Kane County Cougars minor league baseball field and really do it up right. They rent-out the entire left field bleacher section and have a great set of raffle prizes.
Cons
Watch your back.
Company policies for things like tuition reimbursement change whenever they want them to change. Be careful, you could get stuck with an empty promise.
My mother told me that if you don't have nice things to say, don't say much.
