I have been working at Suncor as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Good company values: Safety first, good people to work with, has enough training on the job. Can get PTO (Peronal Time off). There are a ton of experienced people in the work forcce, so is a great place to learn form.

    Cons

Somedays, tasks come out in the last minute and have to get it done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've notice that most of the workforce in the Engineering side for the Oil Sands industry are in the age group 45-65. There should be plans to take over and hire new grads and transfer that wealth of knowledge ad experience. I know there are EIT programs, but more emphasis should be given to them because in 10 years time, things are going to change.

I have been working at Suncor full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been exposed to numerous technical challenges that kept me interested and focused. One is given plenty of developmental opportunities specially throughout the starting years (as a new grad or junior engineer), but you must be ready to take them. They will take you far, that's for sure. Even though they may involve moving in other provinces.

    Cons

Opportunities knock at your door, but you must open your door and embrace them. Otherwise, you're finding yourself stuck in the same position for many years.
Rotation program for new grads is very good for the individuals, but not for the department they leave behind.
With the exception of 2012/2013, previous years lacked any kind of technical training or development. There is not much interest in preparing and grow inside talent, but rather is more interest to pay outside consultants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your inside talent your company has and keep your intermediate and senior employees motivated.
