    I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    In my time there I learned quite a bit, as you get exposed to all kinds of new and exciting technology. Most of the people I worked with everyday were great too. Benefits and pay were decent and competitive.

    Cons

    The culture that upper management has created doesn't bodge well for long-term success. They seemed to put so much effort into signing on these big customers without figuring out before hand how we were going to support them. Also, the outsourcing to India that happened a few years ago has definitely impacted the company in a negative way, and I hope they bring those jobs back soon.

    Work life balance is great, work from home, good pay and benefits, work with many smart people who tend to be very accomodating

    Cons

    Company is struggling and cutting costs in all possible areas, leadership is constantly changing and the direction never seems to be succint

    Pick a direction and stick with it, it will be easier to get people on board and working together

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule, ability to work from home when needed. Average benefits -- nothing that wows you, but not bad.

    Cons

    Heavy workload. Leadership seems to look out for themselves first. Career advancement and training are lacking. You can learn quite a bit on-the-job, but formal training is nonexistent.

    Care about your employees.

    Pros

    People doing the actualworrk are great, just no vision and execution at the upper level

    Cons

    Company is losing money and can't invest in the right things. All the good people leave as there is no reason to stay. It's a sinking ship and they think its business as usual.

    If you can't make the fundamentals work, it's time ffor a drastic change.

    Pros

    Fellow co-workers were the best, they were extremely professional. You get to learn the new technologies on your own as they do not offer any formal training. Everyday was different, working with the clients was nice.

    Cons

    Upper management was never in touch with the data centers. It appears that their only concern is themselves and not their employees or customers. The outsourcing to India was a terrible move. No formal training program. Middle management needs to get rid of their microscopes and let the workers do their jobs.

    I have no advice to management. If I did, they would not listen or take action anyway.

    Pros

    Great people and great potential. If you like high tech you will get a lot of it here. The new stuff is bleeding edge. You learn a lot which makes you a marketable person if needed. Can be rewarding since it makes a difference to the customers.

    Cons

    Very poor communication which is pretty much non-existent. Treats people like a disposable asset and does not invest in them much. HR functions are terrible. Everyone is always on the edge about the next round of layoffs. You work a lot of hours, and it impacts work/life balance. Not sure what the future will bring. The good people seem to be leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Talk to your employees. Given them hope. Put qualified senior managers in place who really know there stuff. Many of the current ones really don't know what they are doing.

    Pros

    Plenty of opportunities to work as directly or as hands on as you want with a very broad range of technologies and services.

    Cons

    Near constant reorganizations have been bleeding the company's intellectual captial (people!) at every periodic RIF. Too much focus on building overcomplicated process rather than bulding stronger, better, more capable employees at all levels. Outsourcing/offshoring trend is acellerating at an alarming rate apparently based solely on a cost basis without regards for what it's impact on service quality, customer-facing outcomes, and customer perception.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest in your people instead of trading them away for third parties, cost is a consideration, but quailty of service needs to be a higher priority. Put real thought into not repeating past mistakes, and learn to listen and consider what all of your staff has to say rather than just a select few
