Pros
Good group of people, all of whom are welcoming and helpful. The most friendly atmosphere I have ever worked in.
Cons
Not a company based in London. Occassionally have to work long hours and the additional effort is not always recognised.
Pros
Everyone works together to provide top quality care for our residents.
Cons
Sometimes there are not enough hours in the work week to complete mandatory items due.
When extra responsibilities are assigned more hours should be given beyond the 40 hours
allowed.
Advice to Senior Management
The leader should be more honest, respectful and fair across the board to his team members.
The only way to earn respect is to give respect.
Pros
Approach toward seniors is right on.
Cons
Cottage Coordinators can be out of touch with their residents needs and their team.
Advice to Senior Management
listen more to what the under management is saying. Sometimes management tells you things based on what they want you to hear or what they think they want you to hear.
Pros
Working with the elderly is so rewarding. I reap the benefits of friendship, shared wisdom and respect in the interaction with my residents. There is great satisfaction each day in knowing that I was able to connect with someone who is lonely or afraid, creating, through intentional presence, a peaceful moment. There is joy when sharing a joke or recognizing our universal need to be valued.
Cons
There are times, like in any job, where dramas can throw team members off-track. Where voicing negativity is counter productive to the team effort. Relying on shared experiences, in a empathetic manner, is necessary, but has to be balanced with the good that occurs every day.
Advice to Senior Management
Voice more respect for the hard work required from the staff to keep, not only the resident, but the resident's family members happy and satisfied. Show the team members they are appreciated on a daily basis, for the effort they extend to their many responsibilites.
Pros
Interact with people on a daily basis. Support of the whole community. Friendly team-members.
Cons
Communication could improve. Follow through with the policies and make sure they apply to everyone, not just some.
Pros
Job satisfaction, caring for residents.
Cons
Long hours, dealing with resident families.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more supportive of middle management.
Pros
Some flexibility within the workweek
Cons
There is no career advancement in Sunrise
Advice to Senior Management
Re-organize management better on the community level.
Pros
Working with the residents.
Gaining experience
nothing else I can think of
Cons
overworked
underpaid
sales pitch does not match the service provided
food in reminiscence is pretty bad
not sufficiently staffed
some staff incompetent but kept on because of favoritism
Advice to Senior Management
Audit visits should be made without prior announcements and incognito. All personnel gets warned about impending visits and encouraged to "look busy at all times".
Pros
Great opportunity to work with seniors
Cons
Recent trend to throw away long term loyal great people is very sad.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring back the culture and not just talk the talk but walk the walk. Senior management you are missing the boat and our residents are paying the price everyday.
Pros
Helping create pleasant days. Sunrise likes to promote from within.
No day is ever the same, always learning something new.
Cons
Taking time off can be difficult in management position
It's hard to balance work and outside life.
Always on call
Advice to Senior Management
More support and recognition for management as well as support staff. Better pay for all.
