I worked at Sunrise Senior Living

    Pros

Resident (patient) care load and cost is determined by care levels and medication levels. The atmosphere is very home like and volunteers regularly work with residents. Management is encouraged to help with tasks as needed that other organizations would object to allowing.

    Cons

Care managers, (without proper education or training) get promoted to Resident Care Coordinators, Reminiscence Coordinators or Terrace Club Coordinators, (management). They are allowed to train and become Executive Directors / Administrators (through the EDIT program). This entire process has sometimes been done in 1 1/2 years. These under qualified executives are in charge of the whole building, including trained educated nurses and the Director of Nursing, (with a stronger background and education in most cases, than the Executive Director). This causes a situation where incompetent leaders become nervous and are politically motivated to oust anyone that outperforms them in any way. They do this in any way they they can, even if it is illegal, because it's hard to get caught. This in turn hurts residents and causes excessive turnover in the organization.

Compensation is well below average. This should tell you something.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not promote care managers and coordinators (RC's and RCC's) so rapidly to fill holes. Evaluate their real abilities, not appearances. Do not tolerate executives that will make up stories and attempt to hurt anyone that gets in tier way. Someone who tells you they have developed a stellar community, or tells you they do not micro manage staff are lying. See how these people get along with residents and families before looking at numbers. In comparison with a used automobile, look under the hood and all around, (not just the shiny outside), before buying into a potential disaster.

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I was a line chef for 11/2 years the benefits were great I lived in walking distance for awhile then moved to closer to downtown Salt Lake City to get a apartment of my own. I was voted employee of the mouth for July of 2013 the people are great I wish I was working their again.

    Cons

The benefits are good and the office culture was all right, but the leadership was very poor. the dining room manager was not trained very well, he had a lack of leadership and his culinary skills were little to be desired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management has it's ups and downs but were well received buy me I well never forget Wade Vest my total operation manager very nice man and all ways has the best intentions for the residents and the employee's.

    Pros

Their mission statement "looks" nice in their environment. The residents are great and getting to know them is awesome. It stops there.

    Cons

to see the true nature of people one should look at how they treat their own family. In this case, the way this company treats its employees is horrible. Low pay, very expensive benefits and hypocritical leadership. How can they be a "champion" for the residents and treat their employees the way they do? I would not trust this organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to treating employees with respect and professionalism. Paul and Terry treated us right. This has gone downhill since they left. You are just another choice of poor providers without living your values with the employees. Don't let your mission go to waste.
