I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Residents, families and the staff I supervise. Providing assurance to residents, families and staff and being their advocate! At this moment I really cannot think of any other pros the place is dysfunctional.

    Cons

Work place bullying, high demands without resources or support, chaotic atmosphere, false promises to families that go unfulfilled. Company's only concern is money!!!! It's an assisted living that takes in skilled nursing residents that they cannot care for! Burnt out staff, hostile work environment, complaints go unaddressed! They get rid of tenured good staff suddenly and keep terrible staff. Work and life balance are none existent; they demand work on days off and always have events with mandated attendance. Must work all holidays. No such thing as an 8 hour day or lunch break; minimum 10+ hours to try and keep up.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to take in residents that belong in a nursing home then provide the proper equipment to care for them. Raise staffs salary to improve retention rate. Work on a healthy work place and break up cliques that bully staff! Educate staff on self care. Send staff to outside training to keep up with current best methods in the field; current trainings are repetitive and useless.

    Pros

Cool people, nice residents, and they sometimes hire within.

    Cons

Rude management, frequent schedule changes, not enough care managers, horrible food, strict policies, no bonuses, they hated giving overtime, and too much favoritism. They have strict rules but it seemed that they only applied to the care managers and not the coordinators or ED. If you break a rule such as not paying your $5 for their nasty tasteless food you will be written up even if you work in the kitchen cooking the food and throwing it away. Really didn't feel comfortable paying for food that would end up in the trash can, that's like paying for garbage.. They threw away pounds and pounds of food that should have been donated.

    Advice to Management

Treat your care managers fairly and don't give write ups to an employee that eats tossed away food. Especially one who has never missed a day of work in over 2 years and comes in on off days if someone calls off. Who have spent working at you location bouncing all 3 shifts in one week and doesn't get recognized for it but written up for grabbing a snack. I will never work for your horrible company again.

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Making the residents happy was always a plus, knowing that my work was helping them. The residents were the only good part about the job.

    Cons

Staff at McCandless on 4th floor were very rude about 80 % of the time, people with the same position as you will try and order you around like they are the boss. Yoi do a lot of work for very littlw pay, the taxes taket about 200 from each paycheck. Also, I was fired because I got pregnant and had a lot of morning sickness so I had to call off and they fired me because of that. Overall, not a good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Get more organized and hire people that will actually care for the residents and care about making positive relationships with co workers.
