    Pros

Very impressed with quality of staff. Responsible for one particular section so really get to know your residents and their routines, but cross training to other areas happens, too, so you become familiar with all residents. Good team work.

    Cons

Evening/night shift does not always have access to supplies, such as gloves, Depends, etc. Get in the habit of checking your supplies before the person with a key goes home for the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer differential for 2nd and 3rd shift

    Pros

Working at Sunrise Senior Living gave me a foot in the door for the healthcare world. It also gave a real world experience for working Alzheimers disease which is something I want to major in. Once I got through the training it was well worth it. When I decide to go back to work I will definitely go back to Sunrise!

    Cons

There were some hoops to jump before I started working. Can be a little confusing at times to work through the training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assist employees as much as possible to get through training, especially when it comes to moving up within the company.

Former Employee - Activity and Volunteer Coordinator in Chandler, AZ

    Pros

it is a happy place, employees genuinely care about their clients. Activity Director worked hard to have lots of actitivities for the people who live there.

    Cons

not enough volunteers or help for doing the various activities that could/should be there for the people to participate in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a Volunteer Coordinator even half time to help the activity director

    Pros

Most of the nursing staff are hard workers and willing to help out

    Cons

Going to work knowing that your license is on the line due to the overload of work, no help from management, focus on minor issues instead of dealing with bigger more liability issues. Management lets major things get slide under the rug and doesn't resolve problems just avoids them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to clean house and get rid of employees who are negligent, quit letting nurses leave work for the next shift to deal with, get more help on the floor, try helping your nursing staff out instead of sneaking out the door and leaving.

    Pros

Core values and mission statement. Training with Sunrise University.

    Cons

Low pay. Pay is too low for the amount of work you have to do to serve residents. High turnover.3rd shift understaffed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have dedicated caremanagers. Pay them much better to prevent high turnover.

Current Employee - Care Giver in Houston, TX

    Pros

Working with the seniors and bringing some joy to their lives. Meeting the families of the residents and understanding their cares, frustrations, and anxieties. The personal satisfaction of receiving some level of trust from the resident(s) -- especially those with severe dementia or alzheimer's disease.

    Cons

Many employees are back-stabbers and will do anything to make your life miserable. Beware you are being watched intently and inaccurate accusations may result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many employees have left or were let go for arcane reasons. Perhaps an overhaul or tweaking of HR protocol would be in order.
