I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

My direct supportive staff, nurses and aides were excellent. Management sucked. They didn't allow me to complete my training, yet they placed demands on me that would have been learned in the training.

    Cons

Understaffed. I was the Director of Nursing and staff nurse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employee and ask them questions directly. Do not rely on hear say.

The fundamental principles of the company are appropriate, but they are not implemented in an effective way.

I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living

    Pros

My co-workers are hard working and dedicated, and the quality of life for residents is overall higher than other places I have worked.

    Cons

Management does not always make decisions that benefit their staff, in fact a lot of times it is the opposite. They try to give their employees a voice but when you try and speak up they usually don't listen or take your concerns seriously. Expect to be short of staff and get hours cut frequently because management doesn't fill the rooms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As an employee, I often feel we get the short end of the stick for managements downfalls.

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The place smells like cookies all the time.
    It's clean.

    Cons

-The staff act like they are still in high school.
    -Underpaid.
-If they don't like you, you get few hours on the schedule.
    -moving up isn't that easy
-the amount work assigned is not worth the pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you place supervisors in a department make sure they enjoy doing that, rather than conmplaining.

I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living part-time

    Pros

Excellent co workers.....every single one loves our residents....as I do, which is refreshing, as I have not yet met one that is less compassionate than myself. They, and I treat your loved one as our own family....but better.....if that makes sense. I highly recommend Sunrise..... Away from work, I think of my Sunrise family often. When I'm not there, I'm homesick. I want to be Home with them.....at Sunrise.

    Cons

No cons....that I know of yet. As for the food...it's fabulous. I eat there every chance I can! The Chefs, in no particular order.....Annette, Rick, and Kevin......what can I say, but, they prepare and serve meals that would be in the 20.00 range per person .....if you were in a high dollar restaurant,...but that residents get get here on a daily basis .... Cool, huh?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To be determined! Nothing to note as of yet....

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved my three years at Sunrise. They are not all the same. The Washington Sate experience was amazing. I worked with an excellent team and had amazing leadership. My residents were loving and the families were great. Each team was unique but all equally wonderful and the coordinators were awesome. My Executive Director cared a great deal and was an awesome mentor. I could not ask for more.

    Cons

Every Sunrise is different. When I moved to KS I was hoping to stay with Sunrise. I quickly found out that they were not run the same as those in Seattle and it was no longer a fit for me. Sunrise as a whole has a wonderful mission and I am hopeful that all will be as good as those in the PNW someday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't over-stress the care team. When we raised their wages, and ensured a work life balance, our residents, families, leadership and front line teams thrived and went from "norming" to "performing" in no time.

I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Sunrise has a family feel to it. Many of the places I have worked at try to gain that feel but don't. Residents are number one and finding ways to contribute to their well being is first and foremost.

    Cons

It is a business and needs to make money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More management being hands on would let staff know you understand the daily chores!

I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I love the residents they are great but a few residents aren't polite and are rude to staff and residents.. But this resident is still allowed to be there-- not cool

    Cons

The staff isn't always available to help residents
    Management sometimes lacks direction
Facility as a whole the communication is not great

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire and train people properly especially the care managers- most come to work with friends and socialize.... Residents are not being put first
