    I worked at Sunrise Telecom full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    I was able to go out of my way to help the customers without having to beg for permission. I was able to set my own schedule within my work day.

    Cons

    The company doesn't exist anymore. It was purchased by Veex Inc, who basically took the products, changed the labels resell them under their own name. As for us employees - they wished us good luck.

    I really don't think you needed to sell the company

    Pros

    Sunrise commonly ran on 'skeleton' crews, which allowed some to learn related responsibilities by wearing different hats.

    Cons

    Since operating with skeleton crews, it wasn't uncommon to continually encounter bottle-necked work processes, resulting in stressed workloads, schedules and employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Sunrise has great employees but seems to be in a catch 22 situation. It needs an outside business consultant to study the entire company's operation but seemly no budget for such expertise.

    Meritrocratic environment, each employee r&r are clearly defined and assessed

    Ambiguity derived by the reorganization. Compensation and benefits are lower than Swisscom

    Pros

    You can try new things without resistance. You can communicate directly with senior management if necessary. Flexible with time off (at least with most managers). Communication between teams is pretty good now. The people remaining are all very good at their jobs.

    Cons

    Hard to trust the follow-through of management; it's better now but for a long time it was a new direction a year. Pay was low for long-term employees. The company has had several layoffs; the company is very understaffed right now, so everyone is doing unexpected tasks.

    Pros

    Good team spirit between lower management and coworkers at the former Montreal plant.

    Cons

    No vision from senior management, they basically killed the cash cow by closing the montreal plan while losing important technological knowledge and know how, making many customers unhappy in the process.
    Horrible project management (no control of scope, budget and schedule leading to the closure of the montreal plant)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make sure you personally know what's going on in a given location before making major strategic changes. Beware of internal politics...
