  1. Great value

I have been working at Super 8 Motels full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Always priced right. I have stayed at many nice Super 8s across the nation.

    Cons

Some properties need significant improvement. They are usually easy to pick out as you wouldnt want to stay in those areas to begin with.

    Advice to Management

A better breakfast would be nice. More facilities to include fitness centers would be great.

  2. Working at Super 8 means having great customer service and a lot of patience.

    Pros

Meeting a lot of different people, employee discounts if you wanted to stay in another Super 8, friendly staff (most of the time)

    Cons

Rude guests, customers will complain about anything and everything, only one person at front desk at a time, laundry is a part of front desk

    Advice to Management

If front desk is calling, ANSWER. We need you!

    Pros

Management lets you take initiatives and lead in every task.

    Cons

Micro management and changes on policies very frequently. Opportunity to grow in the food chain is almost none. Management tries to save money on payroll and makes salaried employees work extra long hours so there can be less number of hourly wages to pay out. Manager and Assistant Manager mans the front desk for at least 10 hours daily and have to perform other tasks . Front desk staff is hired only for 4 busiest months in summer.

    Pros

Can do homework when not busy. Perfect for college students. Very relaxed.

    Cons

Work alone on shift. No cameras for safety purposes. Expected to do management work for minimum wage. No paid holidays. No raises. No room to move up.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to your employees who have put effort and pride into their work. Promote and give raises. Also, hiring new people with more pay than your longterm employees is a quick way to lose your best and most dedicated employees.

    Pros

The guests are great and my shift hours are perfect.

    Cons

Low Minimum Wage Pay, No Overtime Permitted, Management Pays employees cash instead of overtime. No chance for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Pay long term employees who do more than check guests in and out, a realistic wage. Stop micromanaging and critiquing every tiny thing we do.

    Pros

The owners cared about the property The other front desk employees were nice Learned a lot from the general manager Worked hard for the experience I got to find a better job. The GM listened to my advice and suggestions

    Cons

Wages were awful I was there for two years and got a .50 raise from 7.25 to 7.75 was like a slap to the face. On call, and came in almost every holiday Was not paid overtime and the management lied and told us that it was 80 hours every two weeks instead of the FLSA mandated 40 per week. When I did bring it up the GM was angry but eventually gave us the overtime we deserved. Working for another company I realized that I should' have been paid for ALL of my time there the GM would round off the time clock which is another big no no. There are no benefits to speak of. Was sometimes forced to stay at the hotel because he had to make sure I was their the next day and was not compensated for that time either. They made us do the laundry which is not an auditor's responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Since this was an independently owned super 8 my advice would fall on deaf ears. I'm sure the main branches of Super 8 are run much more "legitimately" As far as this super 8, I would suggest higher wages, more benefits, less corruption, and actually caring about your employees. I think that corporate needs to keep a closer eye on these independent hotels or they will continue to run super 8's name in the dirt .
