I worked at Super 8 Motels full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is a great way to gain experience in the hospitality field. The company I worked for did not have much room for advancement, but if you get into a bigger city hotel, there should be room to grow in the company.

    Cons

The pay is not all that great; however, if you are just starting out, you will be able to get the training and experience working in this field. It can open doors for for future employment. Not a bad company to work for though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Nothing at this time.

I have been working at Super 8 Motels full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The manager makes sure I get my 40 hours because I bend of backwards for her. The rooms are decent priced for what they are.

    Cons

I make slightly above minimum wage. No benefits. Its a franchise so there really isn't anyone I can report the manager to for sketchy business practices. The manager is nice but makes the job a million times harder than what it is. There is no room for advancement because despite the fact the manager wants to step down she wont consider me for the position because of my young age though I am over qualified for my position and pay any way.

I have been working at Super 8 Motels part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    It pays the bills.

    Cons

There is a breakdown of management and communication. Scheduling issues. If the hotel is booked during the weekends forget about asking for a weekend day off even if you do it weeks in advance.

You can't get full time hours unless you are management. No benefits. Employees get blamed for managements mistakes. They don't like paying for overtime if by chance you do manage to get any, then they will cut your hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your standards for a set time to get everything done is a bit ridiculous. If you want these time standards to be met, then please make sure that the rooms that have to be cleaned are open at an earlier time if possible. If we have to wait to get into a room to clean it then it's not house keeping's fault things aren't done.
Try talking to your employees before issues come up. Listen to us. Don't wait until it gets out of control. Also, maybe you could offer higher wages other then minimum wage? We have bills and families to provide for also. No benefits? Why not? Quit penny pinching and take care of your employees. Then maybe there wouldn't be such a revolving door with employees quitting only after a few weeks or months. We're human too.

I have been working at Super 8 Motels full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Love the work, the guests, and the potential.

    Cons

Very low pay, standards have gone down hill over the years, cleanliness, no benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care for your hotel, your guests, and your staff, and the money will follow. If you have no standards you'll only upset the guests and hurt your business.

I have been working at Super 8 Motels part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of downtime (great position for a student or freelancer,) 40% off employee discount on all Wyndham-chain hotel stays, easy work, meet interesting people, position has a great deal of independence (especially with 2nd/3rd shifts) and there is decent schedule flexibility.

    Cons

Will forever be just-under full time with no benefits. No advancement opportunities. At all. It's difficult to get holidays off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The position has a high turnover rate, no one ever stays longer than a year or two. Perhaps creating incentives, like going to full-time with some benefits after 3 years, Christmas bonuses, etc., would increase loyalty. There is also no room for advancement, maybe a management training course could be offered?
