Great place to work at if you speak Mandarin

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsFeels like a family, people help each other out, and the environment is pretty casual.

ConsBelow average salary, and because of that this company has trouble retaining young talent. Has a high turn-around rate, people come and go quite often. Most of the ones that stay are near retiring.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay us more please, and hire more girls. it's all guys here.

    family style company

    Product Manager (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

Prosteam work, caring managers. If you are looking for career growth, this is the place you want to stay for at least 5 years.

Consmessy org chart, sometimes you dont know who to talk to. Role and responsibility is not well defined, need to take more time to get used to the culture.

Good for new graduates, not for long term development.

    Computer Systems Analyst (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

Prosnice co-workers, free breakfast and dinner (if you work after 7:00pm), they seldom fire employees. really could learn a lot if you have your career plan and you will to learn. Good for new graduates. Good for those who speak Mandarin.

Conslong work hours( 9:00am-12:00pm, 2:00pm-7:00pm at least, & often need to come for half a day on Saturday), lots of non-technical things to do by RD engineers (BOM, go to sign different kinds of forms). RD engineers do the jobs of RD, PM, technical support, and operation. Poor management. CEO is in charge of everything. You got lower salary than your friends who work in American style companies. low efficiency. CEO's relatives are in different department to help manage the company.....pretty much the family style company

Advice to Senior ManagementReally need to learn how to manage. CEO really needs to find someones who are good at management and give the power to them, which is good for the company and release your work load. CEO need to buy a small software company in order to help build the database and develop software (SMC's software and database are really like junk). Work hour is not important, what important is the efficiency. Reduce work hour, improve efficiency, so that you could save your cost. The company should have online survey, or BBS, which help managers what they need to improve. All in all, so much to improve.WE NEED TO CHANGE.

It's not for everyone, but where is?

    Product Management (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

Pros1. It's a company with great potential and good products
    2. Consistent growth for the past 20 years. Profitable every year, no exception.
    3. Strong top leadership.
    4. Friendly and helpful colleagues.
    5. Has a ton of folks with great work ethics. Most people work hard here.

Cons1. Fast headcount growth results in disarray with some teams
    2. Some procedures are not well defined and followed. Sometimes it takes a lot of patience and communication to get things done.
    3. Work hard usually means longer hours.
    4. Sometimes it runs like an Asian company, sometimes it doesn't. Takes a while to get used to it.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend time and mentor team members. Improve communication and management skills.
