getting promoted to trader is hard

Assistant Trader (Former Employee)
Bala Cynwyd, PA

I worked at Susquehanna International Group, LLP

Prosthe people are smart. the software is very good. free breakfast and lunch and decent hours makes for a healthy work environment.

ConsWhen I took the job they told me about 60-70% of people make it to the trader position from assistant trader. only 1 of 5 in my group did. 2 were offered permanent clerk positions and 2 were fired.

It's okay if it's what you're looking for

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFast paced collaborative environment with a casual dress code and very smart people. It's a good balance between how small and fickle small hedge funds are and how soulless the big banks are.

ConsCompany restructuring happens often and without much notice. It's not always easy to get promoted unless you have a very SIG personality and you're doing the type of work they value.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management is very approachable but since it's a privately held company it isn't always clear how the company is doing as a whole. In addition, lay offs or restructuring come out of nowhere, happen ofte, and are done quietly. You can feel more secure than other places in finance at this time but make no mistake, this isn't a warm and fuzzy place.

SIG is alright at best.

Trade Support Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Susquehanna International Group, LLP

ProsFree lunch/breakfast.
Excellent training and education programs if you are fresh out of college.
Lots of opportunity to get involved in projects in several areas.

ConsDespite the "flat management" structure there is an obvious disconnect in information flow from managers to regular team members.

There is a lot of micromanagement which leads to inefficiencies and duped work.

Meager raises and bonuses relative to the street.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf the firm is hiring quality employees then their level of micromanagement is completely unecessary. Give employees the necessary tools to make effective decisions.

Great Place to Work, But Needs To Update Technical Area

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Bala Cynwyd, PA

I have been working at Susquehanna International Group, LLP

Pros- Free food
- Good amount of talented individuals
- Friendly employees
- Easy to obtain help
- Relaxed and upbeat environment
- "Unlimited" sick days

Cons- Salary is quite not as competitive as other trading firms
- Talents are extremely varied amongst individuals
- Salary should be considered reasonable for many individuals, but not all
- Limited vacation days

Advice to Senior Management- Higher quality control
- More competitve salaries
- Fix by hiring more talented, hard-working individuals to balance out (but this is difficult as interviews do now show this)
- Five more vacation days would be great

Great environment to work, learn, and grow

Operations (Current Employee)
Bala Cynwyd, PA

I have been working at Susquehanna International Group, LLP

ProsFood provided all day, free gym, all employees show respect and professionalism, casual environment is productive, and many opportunities for interns here. Bala location is 13 minutes from the Philadelphia area, with a Target conveniently located across the street

Cons7am to 5pm work days can easily wear you out....but they compensate you for the longer workweek....I turned down much higher paying jobs to work here (but the position makes up for it)

Great starting point

Assistant Trader (Former Employee)
Bala Cynwyd, PA

I worked at Susquehanna International Group, LLP

ProsGreat freedom and autonomy given to newer employees in project work; good, casual environment; flat office hierarchy (which can be appealing)

ConsIf you don't fit the bill for "trader" as an AT, you're bound to get fired without forewarning; flat office hierarchy (which limits advancement)

Advice to Senior ManagementThe education department could do better keeping ATs informed about their performance and risk of being let go.
