    Pros

    1) The people are very nice/humble.
    2) The environment is lively.
    3) There is free poker all the time.
    4) And there is free food everyday practically all the time.

    Cons

There are no cons as far as I can see. I have been in the company only a few months. But it does not take long to get soaked into the culture, and I can tell for sure that the culture is awesome.

    Pros

The salary is fairly competitive, but the benefits are second to none. There are 17 vacation/personal days per year, a gym with showers onsite, breakfast/lunch provided daily, many services onsite during the day (dry cleaning, haircuts, car repair/detailing, etc.), and it is easy to get to from Center City (car, bus, or bike). Overall it is a fantastic work environment.

    Cons

While lunch is provided there is no lunch hour as the financial markets are open all day. The 401k would be more competitive with a full match and 3 year vesting period instead of a 50% match and 6 year vesting period, but neither of these are big dealbreakers for me.

    Pros

Casual dress, free breakfast, free lunch, fun atmosphere.

    Cons

Very long hours if you want to advance, but I guess it's like that anywhere. Some frown upon using up all vacation time.

    Pros

Nice job environment. Wonderful and talented staffs. Free lunch, Close to bulge bracket shops on research. No banking ie independent research done.

    Cons

Hiring done not based on merit but based on who knows who. DOR is a cut throat individual and may scare you on performance and pays even when you are doing the best job that any could possibly do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not try equities business 3rd or 4th time. If you really want to build the platform, build and stick to your plan. Options trading is far different from equities trading - do not mix the two as you did the last 3 times.

Former Employee - Research Associate in New York, NY

    Pros

SIG offered some great benefits including a casual dress code, decent 401K plan, and a free lunch on a daily basis.

    Cons

The lack of diversity in the New York office was shocking and there were no professional advancement opportunities within the company.

    Pros

the people are smart. the software is very good. free breakfast and lunch and decent hours makes for a healthy work environment.

    Cons

When I took the job they told me about 60-70% of people make it to the trader position from assistant trader. only 1 of 5 in my group did. 2 were offered permanent clerk positions and 2 were fired.

    Pros

Fast paced collaborative environment with a casual dress code and very smart people. It's a good balance between how small and fickle small hedge funds are and how soulless the big banks are.

    Cons

Company restructuring happens often and without much notice. It's not always easy to get promoted unless you have a very SIG personality and you're doing the type of work they value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management is very approachable but since it's a privately held company it isn't always clear how the company is doing as a whole. In addition, lay offs or restructuring come out of nowhere, happen ofte, and are done quietly. You can feel more secure than other places in finance at this time but make no mistake, this isn't a warm and fuzzy place.

    Pros

    Free lunch/breakfast.
Excellent training and education programs if you are fresh out of college.
Lots of opportunity to get involved in projects in several areas.

    Cons

Despite the "flat management" structure there is an obvious disconnect in information flow from managers to regular team members.

There is a lot of micromanagement which leads to inefficiencies and duped work.

Meager raises and bonuses relative to the street.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the firm is hiring quality employees then their level of micromanagement is completely unecessary. Give employees the necessary tools to make effective decisions.
