I have been working at Sutter Health full-time

    Pros

Overall, the company has great values (ie-patient care is #1) and there are a lot of dedicated and hardworking people that belong to this organization.

    Cons

Compensation is okay but could be a lot better. Not sure if all the dedication and hard work is acknowledge/recognized. A lot of great workers are lost to other companies because the salaries don't seem to be competitive/market value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your strong employees and compensate them for their worth and the retention of these valuable employees may increase. A lot of money is wasted on hiring consultants and contractors (although they bring a wealth of knowledge) and seems to cost the company too much.

I worked at Sutter Health as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Continuous education. They have lecture series like the Mini Medical College that allow you to constantly gain new knowledge. Extremely intelligent doctors. High level of excellence in healthcare services.

    Cons

Very complex organization so it is not always that easy to figure out the right career progression for advancing. There are opportunities to work for private practice MD groups that are affiliated with Sutterhearh (members of the Medical Staff) and opportunities as Sutterhealth employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a career counseling department so that dedicated employees can better navigate the system, get promoted without threatening their existing bosses.

I have been working at Sutter Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay with Sutter is decent for the area. They have good opportunities such as paying for up to 24 hours of continuing education credits per year. Most of the staff members are a pleasure to work with. Paid time off is hard to beat.

    Cons

Short staffing at times makes it hard to get time off but that may be more of just a departmental issue.

I worked at Sutter Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great bunch of pediatricians but overworked.

    Cons

Every year complained about work ethics of the person I worked with but was never addressed. This is not the tight knit organization it claims to be . Money and profitability over run values, ethics and honesty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen. Rely on the insights and capacities of junior work force.

I have been working at Sutter Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. There is some room for advancement. Seems to be better now with the new COO

    Cons

If you work an administrative job, you are REQUIRED to take off holidays, BUT you have to use your own PTO to fulfill your 80 hours. It doesn't matter if you don't want to use your PTO or if you want to work, say Labor Day. It's not an option.

I worked at Sutter Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent health insurance. Unionized employees at least get paid for hours worked.

    Cons

My direct manager/supervisor changed six times in nine years. (I kid you not.) Terrible morale. People holing on because they needed the job. The facility CEO (my second... or was it third?) got perspiration across his upper lip every time he had to lead a quarterly meeting with general employees.
