Pros
Allows independence, provides support and good training
Cons
Lower salaries, one of few non union hospital based agencies
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate your continued effort to listen to your employees
Pros
They care about their employees
Cons
Not sure about all the different carreer possibilities within Sutter
Pros
The benefits are good - health, dental, vision. I've worked with some really great people and there is room for advancement.
Cons
With any large matrixed organization, it is sometimes difficult to get past the bureaucracy, processes; sometimes too much structure is cumbersome.
Pros
From my experience, Sutter Health is moving to reinvent health care given challenges associated with reform and pressure to keep prices down. Great place for compassionate and creative people who like working together to improve patient care. Fully-funded pension, competitive pay and great opportunities to contribute.
Cons
Downside is same for any health care organization. It's going to be a bumpy ride for a few years as the industry copes with doing more for less money under reform. Jobs will change; some will disappear as technology improves care and efficiency.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to continue taking bold steps to reinvent health care delivery and continue to be open with employees about the need to reinvent ourselves.
Pros
health benefits are a plus
Cons
some employees are very unprofessional
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Great health benefits. Upper Management allows us to push our employees by any methods we see fit. Have to be part of the right click which I am. Located near major interstates and highways. Company has the latest high technology tools. Extremely profitable and we are expected to act and dress professional; however, yelling is totally allowed. Employees are focused.
Cons
Long hours, lots of infighting between departments rather than teamwork. Poor communication and lone ranger mentality. There is a sense of walking on eggshells and forget about doing team building or bonding. Anti networking environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Trying appearing more community friendly to the Media and outside world instead being stand-offish. Use the idea of buy-in.
Pros
Sutter Health appears to be a solid employer. It is one of the very few private sector employers (as opposed to federal / state / local government) that offers a traditional pension plan, in addition to a 403(b) retirement plan. Management seems to be genuinely concerned with doing the right thing.
Cons
The company has a strong bias in hiring and promotion toward staff members with extensive health-care background, to the exclusion of many outstanding candidates with little or no health-care experience. Middle- and senior management staff often seem mired in "the way we've always done things," resisting any sort of change.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to get new blood into the organization at all levels. You need to get over the idea that you must have extensive health care/medical experience to be hired.
Pros
I work for Sutter VNA and Hospice, I like working there because this division of Sutter is small and very friendly. There is a lot of team spirit and team effort. The benefits started almost immediately. The auxiliary staff is exceptional in their support of the nurses.
Cons
So far? I have not found a down side. I was treated with respect during the interview process and was notified of the results of that interview within days of it. The only thing I am wondering about is the pay scale. I recently moved to the Sacramento area and am not sure what other companies are offering.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you are doing.
Pros
Sutter's employees are great, hard working, fun and experienced. Working there is a joy, working with the students also keeps me on my A game.
Cons
Sutter gets caught in a bureaucratic battle between the state and jcaho and the Sutter policies. As a result, sutter comes up with some pretty stupid and senseless policies which really don't directly effect patient care, but boggs down the employee with extra paperwork and steps which in effect takes longer to complete ANY Ttask. This results in longer wait times for patients, and unhappy employees. To be fair, I have never met Pat Fry, I couldn't pick him out of a crowd if I wanted to. It's my immediate supervisors in my department that I am talking about, but I can only assume that they were directed by upper management.
Advice to Senior Management
Lay off the policy memos. Use common sense.
Pros
great physician staff to work with,
Cons
managers play favorites, organization owes back wages to employees for lunch and overtime. policies seem to change with the circumstances, nothing is consistent
Advice to Senior Management
communicate openly and honestly with employees on all issues, all the time. explain actions and policies
