I worked at Swanson Health Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sure you get to purchase products "at cost" you also get to sample some items somewhat flexible with school schedules Job security there are very nice people that work there

    Cons

its a call center, so you can't expect to build relationships with other team members as you are always on the phone the company is booming yet this is not reflected in your bonus although they have raised wages significantly since I was there. very limited upward mobility, even if you hold a degree

    Advice to Management

3 simple things - it would be nice if the person making the schedules for the call center reps was more approachable. this could actually help with turnover. second, there have been complaints about 1 particular Lead/supervisor yet she was never fired. lastly, PLEASE update those OLD monitors!! no one wants to work in an outdated environment.

I have been working at Swanson Health Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Summer and xmas party, discounts are great!

    Cons

Not much of a chance to get to know people, upper departments not being fully prepared and causes havoc on customer service. Sales speech is supposed to be a service though reps are required to sell a certain % of a specific item. Not the company I used to love.

    Advice to Management

Train everyone with more information, take away the sales speech, fix the Web issues, value employees more. Leads could stop with gossip.

I worked at Swanson Health Products (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good discount on a lot of products Good health, vision insurance benefits and low cost on those benefits very easy job to do

    Cons

Very, very boring No relationship with your coworkers They want you to sell preselected items to people, even if their order is totally unrelated to those items. Even expect you to sell to a customer I'd the customer says they can't take that product. The job title is "customer service representative" but should be " pushy salesman". They throw a great holiday party and have good but couldn't care less about you individually...especially if you have a health problem or injury

    Advice to Management

Be more empathetic to anyone who falls ill or has a family tragedy. Actually train new employees how to do the job you want them to do instead of how to fill out orders, since you actually want salesmen not people who help customers that already know what they want

    Pros

Friendly staff and helpful team leads. Very nice facility. Good benefits and flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Rude customers. The training leads you to believe there aren't many rude customers. Lonely environment if you have to work late hours. It gets very boring and depressing.

    Advice to Management

    Better skill training.

I worked at Swanson Health Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have a gym that's open 24/7. Otherwise..

    Cons

They use an out dated DOS program for placing orders and requesting catalogs. It can be confusing. Not only that, but they force you to say "It was a pleasure to serve you!" at the end of every call. Training was OK, but they peer you up with a mentor when you start taking calls. Sounds good, except your mentor is breathing down your neck, tapping the screen and shaking their head when you've done something wrong.

    Advice to Management

Seriously, I don't care how stable your DOS program is. It's out dated. Period. It's confusing and NO ONE likes it. The old monitors from the 80's need to go as well.

I have been working at Swanson Health Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freebies (outdated or ready to expire product) pretty much Monday thru Friday set hours. They have a picnic in the summer at the facility and a Christmas party at the Hilton in Harrisburg which is nice.

    Cons

Favoritism, the boss snubs everyone. Lots of standing and walking. The more you work the more they want from you. Unless your one of those favorites. Then you just have to show up.They allow you to get 18 "points" before you get fired, but in my opinion if you get points in your first 90 days your not worth keeping.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally, give raises on performance not on weather they show up or not.

I worked at Swanson Health Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

at cost prices for employees. company pays half for massage. on site fitness center so you don't get credit if you have your own membership elsewhere. flexible with school schedule, if your a student If you want to work in customer service, this is probably the least stressful place to work for. Yearly Bonus

    Cons

Wages have actually improved a lot after I left so I can't say there is a problem with wages. as with any customer service role, your job is to be on the phone, not talking to your neighbor so you don't really get to meet people who don't sit close to you. but like I said, thats with any CSR role.

I have been working at Swanson Health Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exercise room, Health assements, Great snack area, and nice people.

    Cons

If you work in customer service you have to work every other weekend. It seems that they promote males a lot faster than the females.

    Advice to Management

There is a hard line between upper management and regular employees. It seems management really doesn't reach out to those who are not management. My manager barely talks to me.

I worked at Swanson Health Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discount on products. Almost always have rewards and games going on in call center, help make it fun. Willingness to work around school schedule since there are many college students in the area. 24 Hr gym with shower. Bonus at year end.

    Cons

Not a lot of room to move to other departments even if you have a degree.

    Advice to Management

Wages need to be more competetive if you want to keep good employees from leaving the company. Don't understand how profits can increase, yet yearly bonus do not reflect this?
