I worked at Swedish Match North America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very nice manager who gave senior members good chances to show leadership skills.
    Independent work as outside rep
    Great benefits

    Cons

    Low comp
No room to move unless you want to move all over US due to small sales force

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people equal to competitors and offer larger bonus. Seriously a yearly bonus of $4000 does not cut it.

Competetive salary and benefits, overall nice office environment, a lot of independence in work, potential to travel internationally, opportunity to work on a large scope of projects and to "make a difference"

    Cons

High level of stress, long hours, limited training and room for development and promotion. Overall most of the cons associated with working for tobacco company, high level of uncertainty

    Pros

For the Dothan work area They have the best benefits. If you work in the Dothan area this is one of the top 3 places you look for. There have been a lot of ups and downs but i wouldn't trade it.

    Cons

Not many, Hours can change with little notice sometimes, but that's the nature of the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've seen a lot of business leave our area, Keep doing what your doing to keep us here!

Great at first, then became micro managed. Always felt like your getting snuck up on. No praise

    Pros

Benefits, company car, bonus sometimes, company meetings, work alone mostly

    Cons

Micro managed, upper management never wrong, no praise, company always behind late to the table.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employee's. Give praise and quit pointing the finger at them. Everyone makes mistakes including you. Treat everyone the same and quit picking your golden child that never are disciplined.

    Pros

You are generally on your own in the field. As long as you're growing sales you are left alone.

    Cons

Not a place to work if you need positive feedback. Generally the only time you hear from anyone is when you are being told what you are doing wrong or could be doing better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Weed out some of the old tme managers. Just because they were around in the seventies doesn't make them gods. In fact, they are generally terrible managers who seem to target a specific employee and ride them until they quit. I have seen this happen to many good people and was the main reason I left. I got tired of keeping my head down.

    Pros

Downtown Richmond location. Good people at mid-management level down. Don't really have to do that much work.

    Cons

Led by a president who was quoted as wanting to do the least amount of work and get paid the most. Corporate values are an internal joke among employees which is further maligned by unapproachable leadership. Foreign management out of touch with realities of US marketplace and is constantly criticized and panned by US employees. Insistence of pushing 'snus' and sinking tens of millions of dollars behind a failing strategy does not offer long-term opportunities. Great place if you can get into senior management but be forewarned, it's a boys club. You need to be on top of your fantasy football and golf leagues. But the reward for that is a high end european company car, good pay and lucrative biannual bonuses. Company has struggled last few years so bonuses haven't been as lucrative as past payouts and are subject to the whim of US & Swedish senior management.

    Pros

Clear business direction and filter down goals.

    Cons

Very bad at IT management when I was there and very small budgets for a company with $500M in revenue and >$200M operating profit annually.

    Pros

    Company car with gas.
    Summer hours
    Freedom
    Great benefits
    Company trips
    Some quality brands to sell
    Growing company
Had great boss and upper management

    Cons

Bonus structure needs to be improved.
Pay for phone so we can get emails. Can be too much time reading and responding to emails after work hours.
Sometimes can get "pushed around" by the 2 large tobacco companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rework bonus structure to better reward better performing reps

    Pros

Great Co-Workers in the field and at the Warehouses. Good benefit package including company vehicle and gas card. Good products.

    Cons

Certain RTMs stalk their employees trying to get them fired. Not fans of older and experienced employees. Do not hire within.... like retreads from other Tobacco Companies or friends of the Region Director (Pittsburgh).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the RTM's that like to scare, threaten and stalk their TRs.

    Pros

Good benefits. Work on your own.

    Cons

Poor work-life balance. Lots of "homework"
Management style is to intimidate rather than motivate which makes for a bad day if you have contact with a manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management could use some training on the benefits of motivation.
