    Pros

Strong support for sales. Excellent technical support and account teams truly had the best interest of the client in mind when developing solutions fro the available offerings.

    Cons

Overall my total experience with Sybase was a good one. From time to time it was slow to get executive management to move rapidly on licensing issues which is a big part of successfully closing business.

    Advice to Management

Continually work to meet the needs of your internal customers throughout the organization. Some policies should be fluid in nature not static.

I worked at Sybase (More than 10 years)

    Pros

SAP has a very good benefits package to include daily lunch vouchers. Very fast paced work environment with bonus potential.

    Cons

Slow integration process after company buyouts, with trending toward Shared Services Centers environments.

    Advice to Management

Always remember that people are your greatest asset and maintaining talent should be the number one priority.

I have been working at Sybase full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work culture and flat organisation structure. All technical manager - no people's manager, after SAP acquisition. Managers know what they are putting on developers. Great work life balance. Great learning opportunities. Offer good platforms for employees to put forward their innovative ideas off their daily work items.

    Cons

Decent pay/compensation/benefits, could do much better in this aspect (in comparison to other leaders in software industries) After SAP acquisition, it tries to adopt the start-up culture, but some legacy processes are still hindrance to that. Sometimes you might feel that what you're doing in not really aligned to what SAP is currently focusing on.

    Advice to Management

Fresh college graduates are not attracted to work here, probably because people know so less about the company. Need to put some effort on the PR front.

    Pros

Focus on embedded and mobility was ahead of its time. Technically superior in the market.

    Cons

Success and failures of its Big Data past (Sybase SQL Server) confused the market. Mobility and data warehousing were well-respected technically - but overshadowed by SQL Server aka ASE.

I have been working at Sybase full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent opportunities to learn and work on cutting edge technologies. Very often you have some of the best people in the industry to work alongwith.

    Cons

Unhealthy work life balance. Very often employees have to at odd hours to finish the assigned work. HR benifits are also not the best of the breed.

    Advice to Management

Management needs a better approach to improve work life balance of employees. They also need to consider future growth opportunites which have to be improved.

I worked at Sybase full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Only if you are passionate with database core technology and you got an offer for such works.

    Cons

No respect. Engineers must work very hard to get a "so-so" rating. Managers like to micro-manage all things. Want your daily report. Check your arrival time in the morning and expect you to go home late and then attend meetings at nights, even mid-nights. Managers are hired through a process that don't really ask for tech skills/knowledge, but then act as the tech lead and show no respect to engineers. Engineers are all good and other employers keep coming to hire from Sybase employees.

    Advice to Management

Fire those incompetent managers to save moral.
