    Cons

CEO turn overs affect the overall performance of the company. Company is too large and makes innovation difficult. No employee development plan.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, work-life balance, and decent salary. The employees and lower level managers seem to want to do the right thing - if they were only allowed.

    Cons

While they occasionally make moves in the right direction, management (directors and above) seem completely detached from the workers actually doing the work. They don't seem to know anything about the employees before making apparently random project assignments and don't seem to have any interest in getting employee engagement. Between a massive reorganization, project changes, turnover, I've lost count of the number of different managers within 2 levels of the independent contributors have changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs to stop focusing on the short term and focus on the long term growth of the company. Forcing all employees to take a week off to reduce corporate expenses to make finances "look good" for 1 quarter is the most short-sighted thing I can imagine and it costs employee morale which will hurt even more than the long term. You were so concerned about losing the "top talent" under Steve Bennett that you forced him to resign, but I guess you don't count people who are not executives as worth keeping.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It is a very stable company meaning that once you have a job, you won't get easily laid off unless you are a bad worker.

    Cons

Very large company, but people don't leave so limited career growth opportunities. Decent pay and benefits package. Not the same small company feel that it used have as Veritas before merger with Symantec.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase benefits instead of slowly eroding them over time.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart coworkers, great new upper management. Low turnover means the culture is tightly woven, yet very accepting and supportive to new hires. Great work-life balance. Management is well trained, knows how to stay out of the way of everyone doing the work.

    Cons

Salary raises have been meager for several years, promotions are very rare. New management has taken a long time to recover from a massive reorganization last year. The company is being reborn from the inside out, which is both frustrating and exciting.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The health benefits are good and work/life balance is typically encouraged.

    Cons

No raises, confusing comp plans, poor management. A lot of people are leaving Symantec right now and have been for about 18 months. A lot of senior leadership has left as well as tenured sales reps. Symantec is going downhill fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The last time I signed my comp plan, Symantec tried to take $5000 back from me that was already paid because it was essentially a pay cut that was backdated by 4 months. Not only was that illegal because you can't change someone's pay retroactively but they also took money out of my paychecks to pay them back without telling me which is also illegal. When I explained to HR that this was illegal in the state I reside, they dropped it. How many employees did this happen to that didn't fight it though?

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great work/life balance, though this may not be the case for all.
Ability to work from home, though this also may not be the case for all.
Innovation and collaboration is fostered, as well as open communication with management.

    Cons

Upper management consistently fails to make effective or timely decisions.
Individuals that are not pulling their weight are allowed to continue with no consequence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the real issues and stop "fixing" things until they are broken. The most blatant and obvious issues are never addressed, and the most insignificant items are what are changed.
