I worked at Symantec full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Best office culture that I have seen until now. Immense scope for personal growth if one shows dedication to the work. Lot of scope for technical advancement as well. Office policies are very good in terms of work-life balance. No issues if one has to WFH for genuine reasons. As long as you complete the assignments or raise red flag in advance, the management co-operates.

    Cons

There are multiple products in the company and it is a bit difficult to change team as you have to start afresh with different technology. Management does not consider for a product change unless you push hard.

I have been working at Symantec full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

One of the finest people in the world. A great culture.
    Superb work-life balance.
    Relatively lesser politics.
    Freedom to learn and grow.
    Cutting-edge legacy products.
    Great technical community.
Very good facilities though deteriorating off late.

    Cons

Veritas was acquired by Symantec in 2005 and since then it has been an unhappy marriage of sorts. The company, barring a few instances, has gone from bad to worst. Layoffs are annual affair. Detoriation and reduction of services and facilities are the norm. First line managers are no better than high school graduates. Neither good in people management nor in technology. All they are expected is to maintain word and excel sheets to track the to-dos and hound people by incessant follow-ups.

Completely clueless management and higher leadership.
    Messed up strategy.
    Demotivated rank and file.
Lost opportunities in new product development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward good managers and Identify opportunists and bad managers/leaders and kick them out.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
