Current Employee – been working at Symantec full-time for more than a year
Pros – Core CS work.Geeks may get satisfied.
Wonderful Work/Life Balance.
Compensation will only be good if you work here for a loong term like 5-10 years.
Cons – 1)Very less compensation which repels industry and university talent.
2)No perks like Food, Transport.
3)Some products became so old, freshers get mainly maintainence, bug fixing work. They will say you have to learn first and god knows how many years you have to do only bug fixing and small tiny features.
4)Very old technologies used so flexibility to change to other companies is very less.Ofcourse this is also a system engineering company and in India we have more Application companies.
5)Managers have no idea how to build careers of freshers and mostly end up destroying them because after 2 yrs you look back and you nothing to tell outside what u had done.
Advice to Senior Management – Concentrate on people's careers.
Ensure good training practices.Products are 15 years old and code is so huge we get simply lost in the forest.
Remember that Compensation and perks are very important to retain talent.

Good CEO
Cons – 1. Recruitment standard has gone below par mark after Veritas and Symantec merger.
2. Marathi company.
3. Most of the recruitment is by referral which comes from 3rd and 4th tier colleges.
4. if you are coming from Tier 1 college, you will be highly frustrated by the intellectual level of folks in Symantec.
5. dirty politics and favoritism for marathis.
6. Most of the Sr. management is Marathi and mostly communications are tilted in local language.
7. if you are non-marathi speaking guy, you will have trouble understanding their quotes and intentions. off course at the same time, they will not be able to understand what actually you mean when you try to strike good intellectual conversation in English.
8. There was a time when Veritas salaries and compensation were comparable to MS, Yahoo of 2000. Now HR compares compensation with companies like persistent.
.
Advice to Senior Management – 1. 5 Tier 4 college grads can't work as good as one IIT/NIT Guy. You can surely get 5 of MIT, Pune students/ Persistent/ Infosys folks for 4 Lakhs each. Consider hiring a IIT/NIT Guy instead and pay him well, S/He will be asset moving forward.
2. cut the FAT. you really need not to be 17K+ company. company similar to your business and much greater growth rate are 1/10 of your size.Veeam is hardly a 30+ folks team while commvault is 300+ only. (including everybody)
3.
