    Pros

Company offered a chance to manage your work independently, spent a good deal of time out in the field and was able to take a "hands on" approach to managing projects

    Cons

Difficulty understanding exactly what upper management wanted, sometimes a project would get underway with a lot of momentum, and then be suddenly cancelled due to a "higher up's" indecisiveness. Felt like money and contracts were lost because of this.

I have been working at Synagro full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Location, Helping the environment, good mid level managers trying to do the right thing for their coworkers and customers.

    Cons

Poorly run, CEO with no strategic vision, revolving door for senior leadership, no financial growth for enterprise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Board should find new CEO as fast as possible. There is a lack of new ideas and new energy. People work very hard but get no where bc the CEO lacks vision and any measurable leadership skills - he can manage tasks all day but never moves the needle.

    Pros

There are no pros to this company

    Cons

No one knows what they are doing. Management is poor! I do not see this company being around much longer. Upper management is running this company into the ground. Closing offices, filing bankruptcy while upper management is taking huge a bonus. Employees that have been with the company for years have not seen a pay increase in years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some classes in management if you are going to become a manager

    Pros

Turning a waste product that use to go to landfills or to be burned in an incinerator (wasting precious resources such as natural gas) into a useable product for fertilizer or used for electrical generation etc.

    Cons

Handling human waste , Repair of pumps and mixers etc. that contain waste in them, Critical environments that can be potentially explosive, poisonous, hazardous etc. Having to wear the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment ) at all times no matter what the temperature is in the facility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More openess on the communication between the company and the employees on future of the facility each employee is working in such as contract renewal, etc.

I have been working at Synagro

    Pros

This company used to be a great place to work for, until all of the good managers quit...WITHOUT jobs. That says something right there.

    Cons

    Management is terrible.
    There is no work/life balance.
There have been 4 CEO's in 3 years
Company laid several people off right before Christmas.
    Pay scale is not competitive
Was told we were not getting raises, but then a new dress code was enforced.
    NO COMMUNICATION!!!
The talented people are dropping like flies because management is incompetent.
Don't be tempted by the fake facade that they portray. Keep looking...you don't want to work here. Just read the other reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a close look at to what is going on in Houston, before all you are left with is a bunch of idiots and temps that have no idea what is going on.

I worked at Synagro full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are many great people (from a personality perspective) that work for Synagro. Many folks who have labored long and hard at the company. The company makes a reasonable attempt at decent pay scales for EXEMPT employees. The same cannot be said about the pay for NON-EXEMPTS. The company does a great thing for the planet as a result of their services. Company paid Long/Short-Term disability benefits.

    Cons

This company has more turnover than any company I’ve ever seen and they seem to not like acknowledging it. People resign without having another job in process. It says much about a company’s leadership when they can lay off masses of employees the week before Christmas! They have had several layoffs recently in addition to losing YET ANOTHER CEO and VPs. VPs got PAY INCREASES at the same time the layoffs were occurring. Nothing is secret at this company. It’s obvious to everyone except the leadership team that the company is too TOP heavy. To top it off, the company gave bonuses that were a percent of a percent, which only added insult to injury. It amazes me how there is so much discussion about paying us hourly employees $1-2 more per hour and so easy to add thousands of dollars to management team salaries. There are lots of home-grown talent within the company, which has directly impacted the bad business practices. Bloviating management team members who are all talk and no action. This company operates in antiquity, with communication throughout the organization being very poorly executed. Employees working in slum and dirty conditions with the HR/Safety teams doing little-to-nothing to improve it. This is a very territorial environment and if you accidentally step into someone else’s area, you WILL hear about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Private Equity firm needs to really look hard and long at the value they are getting out of all the VPs at this company. Stop allowing the company to fire employees who KNOW the business and retain the idiots who continue to run the company in the ground, after all, that’s how you got to this bad period in the first place. Get a grip on all the stuff that’s hidden under the carpet at the company, those are the problems of the future. Start taking care of the hourly workforce instead of penny-pinching them for the money they get. Stop doing so many things in secret, because what is done in secret will eventually come out in the open. VPs who fly first class air flights, but can’t spend a few dollars to get crews proper maintenance on their vehicles; managers who get paid for work they aren’t actually doing…it ALL has to STOP!
