Pros
life is relaxed, not too pushy, people know what they are doing, a good start point if its the first job.
Cons
dont like the new management, it destroies the culture of syncsort completely.
well, CEO looks like doing a good job though, frank and straightforward.
But the directors of DP...
Advice to Senior Management
Its really hard to give any meaningful advice. Its not a secret that syncsort really changed alot after its recap from PE, and its not a secret what PE does.
Pros
Health/Dental/Vision Benefits, 401K... way to pass time.. learn how to fake a smile and enthusiasm, bonus if you can get your manager believe he is doing a good job. Reached 20 word minimum just in time.
Cons
No appreciation for employees. Yeah, they may say good job, or give you a piece of paper certificate saying Congratulations, but it means nothing! They make it harder and harder every year to get to President's Club or reach quota. Then, they don't care about your actual understanding of the "solution" so long as you make some calls, get appointment, and perhaps get a muppet or 2 to sign a contract.
Advice to Senior Management
stop congratulating yourselves for the "great job" you do and lining your own fat pockets while the people that work for a living are left to believe they are undeserving of the paycheck they do receive. Don't really know if it's Flavio's fault per se. Seem like he is a puppet with someone else's hand up his rear doing the talking for him because he doesn't seem to have a clue as to what is really going wrong with the company.
Pros
The sell job was very strong by the management on how solid this "40yr old start-up" was and how incredibly bright the future was. They were fair about matching salaries from Silicon Valley.
Cons
Came on board only to realize that they were never going to hire the key account personnel needed. Within 6 months sales couldn't recruit and train the needed partners resulting in low bookings. Laid off after 6 months because another team couldn't pull it together. Felt like I'd been sold a bill of goods.
Politics between sales and marketing resulted in hands being tied and inability to effectively do the job. No recourse.
Good intentions but so much politicing and CYA with the old school mgnt team and the new team that it's an unprofessional environment.
Pros
There is some personal satisfaction knowing that working on improving and supporting Data Protection functions will save the data, life work, and potential jobs of your customers.
Cons
The mentality of the "old" Syncsort, when it was privately owned, still remains though it's being challenged everyday.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue the latest trend of company level and department level all hands meetings including top management. Keep question and answer sessions a reoccurring event.
Pros
The people - very knowledgeable and smart
Perks Health insurance etc were ok
Work environment was not too bad or taxing
Cons
Management, or rather new mismanagement
Advice to Senior Management
Not worth it they wont listen
Pros
Nice location and office to work in
Cons
Bad work environment. Was only there for 6 months and realized this wasn't the place to be within 2 months of working for this company. Hope things have changed. Product has potential
Advice to Senior Management
Hire new management
Pros
small development team for every project, so you have the chance to work on everything in the SDLC - no one will tell you what to do unless you ask for help (or you're not moving forward), you can be your own project manager even if you are junior-level; I think it's a good thing if you are self-motivated enough;
very open environment, you can pretty much walk to anyone's cube and ask questions;
Cons
small team so you need to do everything: developers typically don't like doing extensive testing;
not much promotion opportunities once you reach senior level;
no investment (e.g. training) in employees
Advice to Senior Management
more promotion opportunities; more investment in employees; pay more attention to the professional/career growth of employees; hire more people to better divide responsibilities
Pros
Good stepping stone for first job
Learn a lot about computers, how to work, environment
Easy to build a good relationship with co-workers
Horizontal Promotions
Cons
Low low low salary
Salary is so bottom end that most cannot afford benefits
You compete with senior management in terms of brainpower and skills
No real help from management
Many empty promises and lies
They do not provide you with tools or materials, you must do it all yourself
HR staff is unfriendly and not helpful
Not really concerned with longevity of employees
In this bad economy it seems some employer have found a good excuse to lay off employees. Syncsort Incorporated is one of them. They laid off a good Java developer without any previous intimation by saying you are not fit for the job anymore and company is going through a bad time.
Last year they fired a young guy who was very hard working, technically skilled and punctual. The reason for that was, that guy use to put employees concerns in the team meetings and the management of Syncsort doesn’t want to hear the problems of the employees, and they didn’t like attitude since he use to speak out his concerns and he was not dumb and deaf like others in the company.
Now here comes the biggest surprise, Syncsort promoted the most politically corrupt guy and made him the director of the support group.
Advice to Senior Management
Please get the feedback from the guys at the front line don't involve the middle management specially directors and managers into that because they are the cause of the whole problem.
Pros
Not great but good benefits.
Cons
Upper management lacks the wisdom to see structural problems within the middle management and places blame on Engineers. Large amounts of abuse towards employees from middle management, as well as vulnerable clients.
Advice to Senior Management
It doesn't matter, they're not interested anyway.
Pros
Great health care, access to tons of technology. Employees are leaving in droves so there may be an opportunity for you if you are crazy enough to work there. A paycheck when no other jobs are available.
Cons
The management at every level has no idea what is going on. They are trying to save money in all the wrong places. Salary freeze. Overworked, not enough engineers to cover work load. There are way too many to list. Most lower and upper management needs to be replaced with professionals. Inconsistent policies and managerial contradictions. Under staffed, overworked and underpaid.
Advice to Senior Management
maybe ask the people on the front lines what can be done to increase profits and prevent customers from leaving. Treat your employees as you would want to be treated.
