I worked at Synergy Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work environment, good location, young workers, good access to C Level executives.

    Cons

Leadership changes 1-2 times per year, no continuity. Merging with Steris and possibly moving US Headquarters to Ohio from Tampa. Strong push from sales to close deals with no support from corporate to facilitate deals once closed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in people who have worked in health care in the past to run things.

I worked at Synergy Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is very profitable outside of the United States. Synergy entered the US market through acquisition of several existing companies that operated in similar market space. Compensation is fair and there are sufficient learning opportunities to grow and be challenged. A good place for a young person who wants to learn in a mid-sized international corporation.

    Cons

Synergy has had issues with executing their business strategy in the US and as a result cuts its way to profitability. This impacts low to mid level employees disproportionately while highly compensated executives are being brought on board. The founder of the company is cold in his approach and the culture is dominated by fear that you could be the next one to go at any moment. The organization is very top down and takes a view that "its my way or the highway" approach to conducting business. US based employees that were part of the initial acquisition are second class citizens and are the ones laid off. Sometimes for an obvious reason, sometimes for none. This keeps everyone off balance and walking on eggshells. I believe most people would leave if given the opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's hard to change an ingrained, negative corporate culture. The founder hires people in his image and recruits management trainees who he supervises personally. This results in a new generation of very book smart individuals who will no doubt be dismal people to work for later in their career. Too bad for both Synergy and its current and future employees.

I worked at Synergy Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good co-workers, good low-level / middle management.

A good place to learn a lot and move on, however you will work absurd hours and be signed up for impossible commitments.

    Cons

Executive management doesn't care, nor do they have a clue on what is actually happening within the business. Morale is terrible, work-life balance is lacking, and none of the decision makers are held accountable for bad decisions (which are arbitrarily made without consulting the experienced specialists within the organization).

Poor room for advancement, as management has a tendency to hire from outside the industry and not promote from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive management gives the perception that they do not care about the business or the workers, but rather only about their own personal advancement goals, no matter who they need to step on to get to the top.

"Cost-Cutting" initiatives are not effective when they cut the low paid workers on the floor, eliminate our meager bonuses, and spend a ton of money hiring expensive senior managers and vice presidents instead.

I have been working at Synergy Healthcare full-time

    Pros

Very cost focused and willing to invest if there is a guaranteed return. New to the US and looking for ways to grow. Looks for young talent.

    Cons

Be ready to work seven days. The work you do is never good enough, fast enough or exactly wants Senior Management wants. The goal is to keep you off balance at all times to see how much you can do. While some may think this is a motivator, it's very uncomfortable and demotivating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try a different management strategy. When you are trying to build something, invest in the people. Don't make them feel like each day is their last on the job.

I worked at Synergy Healthcare full-time

    Pros

On the whole the teams consist of good people and there are opportunities for career progression. A large organisation with complex, challenging and enjoyable work. Good occupational health support.

    Cons

Due to being a large organisation, communication and general information sharing could do with being improved. Holiday entitlement was low in comparison to other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve information sharing & communication

    Pros

Small family feel division, some excellent people

    Cons

Little room for progression, debatable management, poor salaries. Sales commission structure now makes it impossible to earn decent money. Lack of investment or care from Synergy HQ leaving the main competitors to grow and take business away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to develop a positive sales team rather than leave them out on the road, alone, out-of-the-loop. Create a proper commission structure that rewards performance

    Pros

we get free fruit and drinks

    Cons

Transferred out of the NHS in a PFI initiative. It has been a real learning curve - we thought things would get better, but it has not proved to be the case. High staff turnover. Very difficult getting our annual leave in. Management do not have much / any expertise in our area of work. Poor communication when changes in working practices. Really low workplace morale. Rather aggressive management style. No moving and handling yet, although heavy lifting involved. Expected to help train new staff, when we are really bogged down with a heavy workload, and terrified of making mistakes. Frequently running behind schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so unpleasant to us / get a new management / transfer us back to nhs
