I have been working at Syngenta as an intern for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great salaries and benefits and good compensations.
Work environment and worklife balance are good. Mostly nice colleagues, who are open and helpful. Also some great talents around that could bring the company forward.

    Cons

Very limited funding for external training to help stay on top of the job.
Too much outsourcing/offshoring to "save" money - this results in loss of valuable knowhow and expertise, hence constantly reinventing the wheel.

I worked at Syngenta as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Good leadership. Performance based progression. Offer opportunities to explore new areas. Lay lot of confidence even in resources who have less skills. Good focus given to employee friendly policies.

    Cons

Bureaucratic environment. Too late decision making. Very little scope of employees to showcase their intelligence. Teams mostly working in silos (almost at an individual level).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote engagement within employees. Culture needs a real focus as it has been deteriorating over past few years.

I have been working at Syngenta full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They faked everything about role, profile and work culture. Salary hike is ok but not exceeded expectation if yours then be conscious. This experience is regarding the Global Delivery Center of Syngenta Pune.

    Cons

Let's talk about profile: - you will get it on paper may be interviewer also ask some fancy and technical question but don't get excited you been foolish by them. No work no life only politics because no one has a good work to do by their technical profile. All are working as call center agents
Growth:- NO growth @all . There is not vertical or horizontal growth. You will get a boss or feel like a boss but no skill development. Even if you are joining next no team under you or forget about team management skill development.
Skill and skill development: - once you are on-board nobody give an attention to your expertise you have to live with what you get in your plate
Want some examples here you go...
Ex: There was no mention of shift work, yet ppl are being forced to come in shifts. They are called service delivery managers and work done by third parties. The worst part is the vendors do not have shifts for engineers who support Syngenta.
It's nothing more then some coordination between vendors and user community where vendor has more powers then you ...LoL....still wana come, you are most welcome have fun...

I worked at Syngenta full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting, good place to learn and go on

    Cons

Cold environment, poor level of managers.
Poor link between HQ to line (strategy to operation).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to develop a culture of listening and be close to the market and the employee. Our competitors grow their market share...

I have been working at Syngenta full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This experience is regarding the Global Delivery Center of Syngenta that is in Baner, Pune.
I was recruited in Syngenta through Randstad recruiting consultants like all others.
    Salary hike is decent.

    Cons

Job profile that was advertised and promised is completely different than the actual work.
Ex: People recruited as Service Delivery Mgrs. are doing the job of Incident managers.
Company and Randstad made a lot of false promises.
Ex: There was no mention of shift work, yet ppl are being forced to come in shifts.
Variable pay is 15 to 25% of the pay depending on employee and the history of payouts has been very dismal. I along with others were told that they have paid close to 100% of the variable.
There is little or no growth. It is a very flat organization and chances of promotion are slim to none.
In general, if you are career minded and like challenging environment, like occassional business travel, want to learn something new...this is NOT the company. Stay away from Syngenta, Baner, Pune...

I worked at Syngenta full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

God worklife balance and benefits although pay is not great, great corporate culture and values. Make you feels like you're really making a difference with your work.

    Cons

Not the best professionals around, Syngenta is a slow and conservative company. If you are looking for fast track learning to build your profile you should probably look elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Syngenta full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I got to work with wonderful plants and new varieties.

    Cons

I suffered a terrible manager who was more interested in his secretary and pub lunches than achieving team goals.

    Great People, Rewarding Experience

Former Employee - Student Chemical Engineer  in  Huddersfield, England (UK)
Former Employee - Student Chemical Engineer in Huddersfield, England (UK)

I worked at Syngenta as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Had a great time here, it is relaxed and friendly. There were a lot of out of work events that really helped me get on with and get to know everyone on the site. They encouraged and supported my learning well. The company does a good job connecting you with employees all over the world and making you feel involved in the companies affairs.

    Cons

Culture is quite cautious but this is very common in the chemical industry. Excessive focus on buzz words and things like Shingo and LEAN. These became a joke to people in the manufacturing plants due to this. IT services can be variable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall really good, you made me feel very involved and important, which was rewarding. You should get better service from HP, but i don't know if that's fixable. There needs to be less focus on Shingo and LEAN and more practical understanding of how this can be applied specifically to a chemical plant.

I have been working at Syngenta full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Competitive pay
    Great coworkers
    Flexible work schedule

The company makes a great effort to provide work-life balance and keep employees happy and healthy.

    Cons

    Poor leadership
    No strategic vision
    Limited career growth opportunities

Often feels a lot like a circus. No one seems to be able to drive positive changes. Lots of rhetoric about growth and new opportunities with little execution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the small company mentality. Key decision makers need to get better understanding of operations of business and fix major gaps. ICS strategy has failed and needs to be revamped or abandoned. Need better leadership and direction from the top. Numerous independent projects are overlapping and wasting time and resources.
