This Company WILL Bleed You Dry

Senior Network Architect (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than 3 years

ProsCompetitive Pay - they have to, or no one would put up with them.
Nice location - Tampa is a beautiful place, and the HQ is a gorgeous building on a lake.
Great opportunities for moving up: Over time the people above you will be systemically and capriciously fired or otherwise burn out and run away. As such, it's a good company for people starting out who aren't looking for a long-term employer, but want good resume-improving exposure to jobs and technologies that they probably shouldn't be trusted with yet. (It's a fringe benefit of working for a company that constantly chases their talent away - that you'll be doing jobs above your paygrade. This can really pad your resume, if you can handle the stress.)

ConsSyniverse believes humans are coin-operated machines.
They refers to people below the Director level as "resources" that can be replaced at will.
Work hours are ridiculous, unpredictable and exploitative.
Employees refer to PTO as "Pretend Time Off" because everyone seems to work through vacation just to avoid losing their jobs.
Fosters a culture of fear, and rewards long-time employees with pink slips whenever they need to cut costs for the next merger or acquisition.
CTO motivates people by informing them that he will fire them if they don't do what he says.
They rotate managers, directors and VPs like teenagers change clothes.
Little respect for technical talent.
Make little effort to train, promote or reward improvements in engineering talent.
Burn their top people out.
Savagely cut their perceived bottom 10%, but with no actual KPIs for those people to measure themselves by.
Only time they show you any respect is when you try to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementEveryone I know who left Syniverse is immeasurably better off and happier with their career, work and life balance. You are destroying lives and marriages with your insidious lack of care for the people who build/built the business. Look at yourself in the mirror: You are a Wall Street sellout.

Very long hours and absolutely no family life at all.

Production Support (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than a year

ProsCompetitive wage, decent benefits, clean offices

ConsVERY LONG working hours! No family life! Very little to no training at all to perform the job. Very little to no communication within the same group or working with others.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop over working your current employees and hire more people! The position I was in required at least four people to be effective. Instead, I found myself working 24/7 without spending any quality time with my family.

The attempt to go from good to great resulted in grave dissapointment!

Management (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than 10 years

Pros- Compensation package

- Job advancement

Cons- Lack of communication, support and direction from executive management. Their focus seems more concerned about their own image, rapport and influence amongst each other, doing whatever it takes to save their own jobs over supporting their subordinates and owning their own responsibilities and mistakes. High performing, dedicated and talented employees are at the mercy of this game, by taking the fall and losing their jobs in the personal ranking process. Personal being the key factor here, not performance. My advice is to be very careful working here. This process (game) is repeated every year to cut the so called bottom 10%, however, you can actually perform in the top rank, consecutively, and be singled out in this process if they just want to "get rid" of you for any reason. The culture fosters fear of job security in most positions, including executive positions, and is very sad.

- Limited training, very lean budgets.

- Very long working hours for salaried employees, especially management.

- Currying favor helps your position.

Advice to Senior ManagementOwn your own mistakes, make room for improvement including your own, and respect your subordinates. Do away with the personal ranking process and transform back to a great company to work for.

Very Top Heavy and reactive management. Management only values Directors and Above... others are 'resources'

Product Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Syniverse full-time for more than 3 years

Proscompany is profitable.
All products are run based on a spreadsheet.
Business run purely based on margins ...

ConsAll folks in management team are friends of the current CEO coming in from another company.
No value for new ideas coming from the senior people. Management is not focused on day to day happenings. Very reactive and knee-jerk decision making. 2 re-orgs per quarter is nominal with no visibility on the reason for the re-orgs.
