Pros
Good benefits. free healthcare checkup onsite
Cons
Promotion is slow if exist at all.
Pros
If you are contented with middle class treatment.
Cons
No more stock options.
Been here quite a while. Could have been better if I were in the other team where growth, encouragement and promotion is visible.
Pros
If you can get into a certain teams, Syniverse can be a superb employer - interesting work, huge challenges, flexible schedules, working from home, good compensation, etc. Overall, the company has been improving most of it's software environment, and seems to have learned a few hard lessons about trying to outsource too much. Under certain superstar VPs, the bonuses can even be generous!
Cons
However, there are still big chunks of the company where technical staff are working on big bloated applications, under unimaginative supervisors, using horrible out-of-date tools. There's still an awful lot of electronic forms to get things done (extra disk space added to servers, creating new user accounts, even swapping out a $10 ethernet cable). Mobility from the boring groups to the exciting group is nearly impossible to achieve.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut the bureaucracy. It costs much more than the resources they are trying to manage. Prime example is disk space. Development and production support groups spend countless hours trying to micromanage space, and those hours costs much more than the disks would be cost.
Pros
Quality of Work, Team mates, Knowledge base, Domain
Cons
Salaries are less, Competitive compensations as per market standards.
Advice to Senior Management
Please review the salaries, as we feel its below the market standards
Pros
The teams are very supportive and work on exciting projects.
Cons
No stock options but pay is good.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow local leadership to be in control
Pros
Challenging and there is never a dull moment
Cons
Challenging and there is never enough staff
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
I get thanked for doing my job, very friendly culture, people here are genuinely happy. Very bright intelligent employees. When I walk down the halls people meet eyes, smile and greet each other. Friendliest culture I've been in since Amdahl.
Cons
Company is fiscally conservative, a little tight with money, but that's what got us where we are, a leader in the messaging and roaming industries.
Advice to Senior Management
We need to keep up with the explosive growth in roaming and messaging. With the new smartphones, traffic will increase dramatically.
Pros
Stable
Acquiring new companies
nice facilities
no travel expense limitations
Cons
No "H" in HR, extremely underqualified and loose lipped, very confrontational and defensive, not the typical human touch most HR professionals take pride in
understaffed IT dept.
overworked-everyone except the 6th fl, and excluding finance works 60 plus hours a week
very high turnover
Advice to Senior Management
replace entire HR team, hire IT staff, the board needs to be involved, aren't we publicly traded? Yes, an in violation
hire people, lots of them
get rid of clinic, waste of money, all she does is refer everyone out
listen, the response of if you don't like it leave it horrible, love how HR and Tony and back pedalling on that one. Measure twice, cut once
Pros
This company has good compensation and provides many benefits. The internal infrastructure is well organized and communications between employees can be accomplished through numerous ways..
Cons
The company has a tendency to be very top heavy, meaning too many cheifs and not enough indians. Also, when it comes to formal training, there seems to be a unspoken rule that you must lean things on your own.
Advice to Senior Management
N/A
Pros
Paid GO/Eco Pass good for unlimited rides on VTA and CalTrain. Beautiful fountain in the courtyard. On-site gym available to employees 24 hours/day.
Cons
Mediocre benefits, mediocre pay, and very low workplace morale. Feels like a sinking ship.
Not very flexible with scheduling: expected office hours are 8am-5pm. All employees are required to submit a weekly timesheet.
East-coast-based management is completely out of touch with Bay Area tech culture and are hemorrhaging their top talent at an incredible rate. Management doesn't seem to care--it reinforces the sense that you, as an employee, are just a replaceable cog.
Advice to Senior Management
Currently, Syniverse isn't a place that anyone with any talent or ambition in the Bay Area should want to work. If that's the organization Management wants, then keep on truckin'.
If Syniverse is going to continue to pay below-market salaries, at least treat employees as adults--do something to make up for the salary short-fall and crummy benefits.
