Pros
Work environment and culture: One of the main reasons is the work environment and organizational culture. They cite that their cultures and work environments are unique and unlike others in which they have worked.
Challenging and meaningful work: they love what they do and find their work to be challenging, meaningful, and intrinsically rewarding. They are continually challenged in their responsibilities, and offered the opportunity to work on new projects and tasks and in a variety of areas.
Cons
The primary disadvantage is the employee's lack of access to the workplace, supervisors, coworkers, and even customers. If a person's work is improved through the physical presence of the employee in the workplace, it may not be advisable to institute telecommuting. A second major concern with telecommuting is the inability to supervise the remote worker. While many employees are not allowed to telecommute until they have a record of effective performance in the workplace, performance problems resulting from a lack of supervision may arise in some cases.
Advice to Senior Management
overall i am satisfied with the management at synopsys. But i think they need to improve in this area a little bit
Pros
Good company, treats employees well. Stable if not
Cons
Good company, flexible work hrs, encourages taking time off and balancing work with life. As with EDA sector, flat growth, which also means fewer surprises. Very good place if you are in hardware / electronic design; leader in EDA tools. Senior management is excellent in execution & leading the company
Advice to Senior Management
No particular advice.
Pros
Good benefit package and bonus program, good location and facilities, challenging work for the right people in the right departments.
Cons
Very slow to make technical changes internally, can be very autocratic and non collaborative, questioning decisions often frowned upon by upper management. Very fiscally conservative, huge amounts of cash in reserve and healthy business but unwilling to give raises over the past three years.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen more to employees, encourage collaboration, frown upon decisions made just because some VP's reputation is on the line, don't boast about earnings and new business and then announce shut downs, lay offs and no salary increases.
Pros
Nice and intelligent colleagues, leader in many aspects of EDA.
Cons
Moves like an aircraft carrier instead of a speedboat
Pros
Low risk, a safe place in terms of layoffs and based on the revenue model, they are going to be alright, even if there is another recession.
Cons
Things move very slow; not too efficient.
Advice to Senior Management
I wish the middle management had passion of Aart and Chi .
Pros
-Stable
-good working environment
-Free coffee
Cons
-they encourage employees to grow within company but when i applied for a position they did not even gave me a chance for an interview. how can we suppose to grow within when they don't even gave us a fair chance?
-highly politicized company. it's mostly who they know and not what they know.
-Overkill process driven that it's becoming more as a "Red Tape"
-you can't exercise your decision making skill even on minute matters.
-Campus too many speed bumps
Advice to Senior Management
- Pls follow Abraham Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs". That's all we need.
Pros
most perks of a big company
offices in many countries
provides reasonable opportunities for career enhancement
Cons
not very flexible with "work from home", although that might be particular to my group
Pros
Everything is about the customer and their needs, which guides management in the right direction
Integrity is valued by management if not always practiced
Great co-workers
Good work/life balance
Encouraged to learn new technologies and methodologies
Cons
It is a conservative company and isn't willing to invest in development of new technologies and projects. New technology is aquired, not developed. So R&D does a lot of integration and maintenance.
Middle management is comfortable and slow moving. They are more interested in process and maintaning the status quo instead of driving new initiatives or thinking stratigically.
There are few or very restricted opportunities for advancement. (Management entrenched)
Advice to Senior Management
Take a chance on more aggressive in-house development. Don't just buy all your new technology
For the rolling layoffs, don't just target individual contributers. The company would be just fine with fewer VPs and Directors
Pros
Cutting edge technology, lots of creative freedom.
Company is very stable.
Cons
Little if any praise from senior management after completion of large projects. Lacking in competitive salaries.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more agressive with salary increases, at the minumum with market levels.
Pros
- Very Stable work place
- Well organized company
Cons
- not a good compensation
