I worked at Synopsys full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Nice and talented people to work with. Good work-life balance. Job security is good because of it's dominant position in the market.

    Cons

EDA itself is kind of a niche market. Not much good opportunities for career advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less politics, more transparent and direct communication.

I have been working at Synopsys full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Tenured staff, solid products, good culture where employees are valued, minimal politics, Employees have been there a long time because it's a good place to work where one can balance personal and professional life. They have a leadership position in many of their products and when they make a customer commitment, they live up to it.

    Cons

There is very little opportunity for advancement or growth. People at Synopsys stay in their roles forever and there is very little that changes from an organizational perspective. Sometimes the company's overly conservative culture limits creativity and out of the box thinking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your people and promote from within. Rotate assignments so employees can gain new experience, increase their contribution, and enrich their careers. We do a global employee survey every two years but nothing ever seems to change.

I have been working at Synopsys full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Very stable, Lot's of opportunities to grow, customers are treated very well. Values and ethics of the leadership are unquestionable. Leadership with a technical background is perfect for a tech company. Career growth is possible with the right initiative.

    Cons

Culture of too many meetings and e-mails: engineering works gets compromised. "Difficult" customers are tolerated. Sometimes leadership is too conservative. Lay offs on good times also.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful in buying new companies....too many klunkers in the recent past (Virage!!!). Also, sometimes the new company leadership changes the existing work flows in a negative way.

I worked at Synopsys full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The leadership team is by far the strongest in the industry. Business processes are well designed for efficiency and ease of use. If you want to work on high impact projects, you can. Career growth can be slow but if you prepare and do the work - you can get there.

    Cons

Lack of change in the organization can be perceived as a real barrier to innovation and opportunity. Everyone is very professional. It's not a place where people have fun at work though.
