    Pros

    Company culture is very good.

    Cons

Growth space is limited. But is not the company's problem, it's the whole industry's problem

Appraisal process in certain CAE groups is a sham

    Pros

Limited work pressure, good company if you are amongst the ones who just wants to glide through

    Cons

Appraisal process is a big sham in IG CAE groups. There's no correlation between the feedback you receive and evaluation of your performance by your peers. This is indeed very disappointing. You can receive excellent peer feedback and yet have a stagnated career, just because your management doesnt like you. In my previous company, we had a 360 degree feedback system where the feedback about the managers was collected from the reports and provided to the managers for bettering their performance. However, in Synopsys, there's nothing like a 360 degree feedback system, only your managers can evaluate you, your opinon of your managers does not matter, They are ridiculously empowered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give engineers a fair opportunity to evaluate the managers

    Pros

Decent people who are polite and for the most part friendly. There is enough to keep busy. Not always micromanaged. Work/Life balance is good. Some technical challenges. Community volunteer work.

    Cons

Not a place to advance a career. Growth opportunities; limited. Challenging work; limited. Cross-training; limited. Salary increases; limited. Information seems to be guarded so you are on your own especially if you are part of an acquisition. CFO doesn't seem to value IT. Change is not accepted easily. There seems to be a family connection all over the place. The best work is for the favored not necessarily the best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the CIO in charge of IT instead of the CFO.

Synopsys is a great EDA company, one of the pioneers, and continues to have great R+D and product portfolios.

I have been working at Synopsys full-time

    Pros

Very interesting, challenging projects, great people, a very supportive culture for people who want to dig deep to solve difficult problems.

    Cons

Some tendency toward bureaucracy, but probably far below average for a company of its size. My experience of the more bureaucratic elements was certainly not stifling and did not have a great impact on productivity. Perhaps more thought should be given to determining the scalability of certain processes before making them mandatory.
M&A is not always the most effective, nor the most profitable way to advance the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more thought to current(up-to-date) product deployment practice which is largely absent from EDA: cloud, EDAaaS, for example.

I have been working at Synopsys full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A good place to learn many technologies.

    Cons

-moving up the ladder can be really slow
-salaries are not competetive, and also not fair amongst employees with same number of years of experience
-Huge tendacy to show favoritism by decision makers, which HR does not adequately manage to keep things fair for all.
    - The Fairness Culture is being changed by Managers from Magma, who have a unfair work culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that the old culture of synopsys due to which synopsys became a top company does not get diluted due to the new managers after acquisition

    Pros

Great company and lots of opportunity to grow initially. Lot of talented Engineers and they are the best in class on what they do.

    Cons

Growth slows down after a point and job becomes redundant. Employee has to push himself hard to next level rather than that coming from management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find growth opportunities for your engineers and find them interesting and lucrative opportunities.
