    Pros

Easy and undemanding work, the same projects year after year.

    Cons

Women are seen as the enemy. This is very much an old-boys network place.

    Advice to Management

There are some women smarter than men.

    Pros

Decent pay, learn to run your own business. Exciting lifestyle at times in OR.

    Cons

Company direction pre/post acquisition is questionable. Stryker (competition) is taking every account away. Synthes has historically not adapted to changing ABD demanding market trends. This has been perceived as arrogant and has made it very difficult for Synthes to grow

    Advice to Management

Understand the customer and sales consultants.

    Pros

Benefits are ok, however charge more if your overweight

    Cons

Upper Management doesn't have your back.

    Pros

Money is good and benefits are good.

    Cons

Much going on now that makes it difficult to succeed

    Advice to Management

Show loyalty to people that made the company great. Firing senior leaders is unwise. Visably reward tenure. To my knowledge, there is not a single advantage for time of service except a jelly of the month club. There has not been a single person to my knowledge that has made a transition in to any other J&J OpCo.

  7. Helpful (1)

I hated Synthes. Culture old school, boys club in management, people were promoted based on tenure not talent. If you suggest change the answer is usually 'we've always done it this way'. Frustrating.

    Pros

High commissions before merger, consultants are treated with respect and supported very well.

    Cons

Slow response to surgeon needs. New technology slow to market.

    Advice to Management

I have no complaints. Was a bit of a good old boy deal in upper management, but didn't really affect me in the field.

Used to be one of the best employers in the area until J&J acquired the company in 2012

    Pros

Challenging work. Excellent benefits. Highly professional staff.

    Cons

Too much of a cultural shift after the acquisition. Layoffs occurred for the first time in the company's history. Morale at an all time low. People leaving in large numbers.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the veteran employees first.

    Pros

I am no longer employed by the company

    Cons

Ineffective management, lack of team environment, legal team in-fighting. I actually witnessed a verbal altercation between the CEO and the GC.

    Pros

I worked in sustaining engineering and so I saw many different projects and products. Most engineers focus on a single region of the body, but I was able to get my hands on projects from multiple different anatomical groups.

    Cons

Some of the work was tedious but none of it seemed to be purely busy work as one may sometimes expect for a co-op position.

    Advice to Management

My manager was absolutely amazing. He was always very busy, but made certain the co-ops felt at home, useful, and appreciated.
