I worked at Syracuse University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Relatively good pay for research / teaching assistants (RAs, TAs) in the engineering college, with a good mix of high-profile projects to choose from. Good health care packages available to student employees (SU Blue). Good compensation for conference travel and some research incentives offered.

    Cons

Limited resources available to student researchers (i.e. restricted machine shop, few usable high-power computers, etc.). Extremely limited spread of courses in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department for graduate students. Too much emphasis on publishing research papers early and often, rather than publishing excellent papers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention when your employees / students express needs for new or replacement equipment. Projects will be completed on time and better papers will be published when employees have the computing power to actually run experiments and simulations. Similarly, update the teaching computers - it's impossible to run a lecture while your presentation computer cannot connect to a projector or is too memory-limited to run sample simulations.

I worked at Syracuse University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy to land a part time job here if you are a student with a little time on your hand. There are a number of search tools that can help people find positions, and the interview process, if any, is a breeze.

    Cons

Inter-department politics and funding practices make it impossible to get promoted, and in turn your resume becomes a long list of entry level positions. Too many layers in the chain of command meant that no job at the entry level put you in contact with people who were allowed to think for themselves, even if they had great ideas. The environment is completely inflexible, its impossible to make a change to the way anything operates, even the most mundane things take eight levels of approval.

I have been working at Syracuse University part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good salary.
You wont be hired unless you are a grad student. So the pro would be getting in touch with the undergrad life which syracuse is so popular for.

    Cons

Problem is you are not assured so-and-so no of hours per week. During midterms and finals, you ll get a lotta students but otherwise cant say.
